Re: Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi - Migros - CHF 222

Why do you expect Samsung and co to bother offering upgrades for their products?

It costs them money to do it and it means you are less likely to buy the next version of their product.

The android model is fundamentally flawed.

Re: Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi - Migros - CHF 222

So, I have followed this thread and googled a lot of stuff. I wouldnt say none the wiser, but it is still a bit beyond me. You guys are all . Just kidding. Impressed that people know this stuff to be honest.

So can I ask a silly question. Lets say I want to buy a tablet with Android as my laptop has been all but destroyed by my 3 years old. I dont want to do all these reboots and whatnot that some of you have advocated as you can probably tell I am just not that advanced. Call me a noob if you have to. I just want email, internet, word and excel. i.e nothing too fancy. I guess I would want a half decent screen size to read and to type.

Recommend away. I will probably buy something this week. FYI my wife has the Ipad, but I cant get used to it as I have grown up with windows and so on.

Cheers

Because they make money from the app store, so they don't really care which version you have.

Also new ios = new features which app devs can use to create new or enhanced apps = you will be more likely to buy them

Plus, search on mobile is dying. Source: Steve Jobs D8. He basically said that from all the data he's seen, people on mobile do things in apps, they search for things, in apps and that he's looking to streamline any adverts so that they don't break you out of the app. Not only that but a quick search of the web reveals that google is making less money from the mobile area because they can't charge as much for mobile ads.

I didn't say you couldn't own one, it might be the best thing for you. Incidentally I don't own an iphone.

I have to say I tried to put JB on mine (from ICS) and it would not turn on wireless and I had to go back to my nandroid backup.

ICS is lovely on it. Touchwiz is actually OK.
Hi, did you manage to get ICS on the CH sold Tab 8.9 through Kies?

Odin is your friend. Kies sucks monkey balls.

P7310XARLA3_P7310UELA3_HOME.tar.md5 first
GT-P7310_P7310UELPB_HOME.tar.md5 second

Instructions are on XDA-Devs.

Actually Samsung offers by far the best support among Android manufacturers and they are being rewarded by <50% of Android sales.
So, please update your 2-years-old arguments.
By supporting its devices Samsung makes money, because its customers will buy Samsung again and because HTC/LG/Motorola customers will switch to Samsung next time.

Re: Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi - Migros - CHF 222

Samsung's ICS update has been pushed out over the air in Switzerland. I just upgraded one of my 8.9s. It's a little bit slicker than 3.2 and makes the 8.9 now a very nice tablet at a great price - totally blows the Nexus 7 away (which has suffered a bit since its upgrade to 4.2.x).

Re: Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi - Migros - CHF 222

what build number do you have for this OTA ICS please?
I found a version last week installed with Kies with IMM76D.XXLQ6 - does this match? I would expect not as it has an icon for 3g signal.......

thanks!

if the update is not showing up in Kies, you could manually flash it via Odin from here http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-P7310... the link indicates that the firmware for the Europe region would be XXLPO... I am currently running UELPB, but I guess I shall flash XXLPO and see whether there's anything different... there's an even newer China release ZCLPB on the same page...

EDIT: also you are right about XXLQ6 being applicable to the Galaxy Tab 8.9 (Wifi+3G) version... http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-P7300

Re: Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi - Migros - CHF 222

Thanks, I just flashed the 7310 version over the top. I'm even running stock recovery now...so any OTA update should be mine.

I'm totally happy with this device, I have to say.

Re: Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi - Migros - CHF 222

in case anybody is still contemplating this Migros deal, look no further... today's Interdiscount Advent deal is just for you... CHF229.- for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1... it is the same generation as the Galaxy Tab 8.9, but 10 inches of pure awesomeness this was the model which made Apple execs crap in their pants over... good for them that they got sales banned in USA... but it was a really sad day for customer choice... it even inspired jokes like these...
