Internet Access Point for a week?

Hello all,

I have some visitors coming to a training course and I procured a free meeting room in Zurich. The only problem, it has no internet.

I would like to provide attendees with internet access - ideally broadband. What could be my options? I need this for two 3 day periods.

I was thinking of a 3G USB dongle on my laptop, and then using software to create an access point using my laptop's wifi card (Intel's My Wifi software lets you do this).

Of the telcos in Switzerland, which provides a good 3G dongle bundle, ideally with a large data package included?
Any other cost-effective alternatives?

Thanks for thoughts.

Re: Internet Access Point for a week?

I would use a Mifi router ( got one for loan if you are keen Level 1 WBR6801 ).

I stick the USB modem 3G ( Sunrise Huawei ) into it and clients connect via wifi.

Alternatively, get a Monzoon account for wifi

Might be worth it to get this ( CHF15 a month for the next 6 months 1GB a month )

Re: Internet Access Point for a week?

You say meeting room but don't say where. If it is in an office type of building, why not try the following.

I would go to the room then check on what WiFi signals you pick up (go for the strongest one first). I would imagine that it will be secured. Then I would start knocking on doors (other offices if in the building) to see who owns the WiFi signal. Once found, introduce yourself, explain the problem, tell them about your business/training course etc. and ask if you can "rent" three days access from them. It might be your easier and cheaper option.

Re: Internet Access Point for a week?

Venturello,
This might be the bad boy you are looking for. doesnt fit the exact schedule you are working to, but should do the trick for internet access for a few days.

I too had been looking for such a thing for my cheeky wee visit to Zurich in October.

http://www.swisscom.ch/en/residentia...t-connect.html

"5 days unlimited mobile internet access."
"
CHF 36.– / 5 days, 2 GB included
Each additional day CHF 4.- (max. CHF 85.-/month).
For a depot** of CHF 129.- you will get a mobile hotspot."

Note that the device itself is limited to "Up to five devices" which i think is usual for Mifi devices of this ilk.

you could always get 2 or 3 depending on how many clients you have ( on diff SSIDs I suspect so as to stop interference). looks like you can pick from a number of places in Zurich.
