| | Re: Which mobile phone provider? Swisscom, Sunrise, Orange....
Anybody knows if Swisscom offers a discount on contract monthly fees if you opt not to take a subsidized phone from them?
E.g. on Orange a 70-francs contract comes at 55 francs/month if you take no phone.
It makes sense that they do this discount, but I can't find anything related on their website. |

I've looked at their plans in depth as well, and from what I can tell they do *not* give you a discount for bringing your own phone. As you point out, Orange does, which so far has tipped the scales towards my going with them.

I also looked at this. Swisscom don't seem to offer, and Orange do. I think Sunrise also give you a subsidised rental for bringing your own phone

Has anyone found a site for comparing the tariffs for calls made from abroad when traveling and, more importantly, data transfers abroad?
Yes, I do know that you can buy a prepaid card at most places when going abroad, but this is just not practical when going somewhere for a weekend, plus it is not possible with a locked-in phone.

I haven't seen anything like that, would be useful. Although this is precisely why I bought an unlocked phone - I'm just out of Switzerland too much.
I do know that many of the Swisscom packages now include a small amount of minutes and data to be used in the EU each month, at no additional fee.

Check their website.
Also Orange will charge 4 francs/day for some small Internet usage while abroad.
You should check which of the two matches your needs better. | Quote: | | | | | Although this is precisely why I bought an unlocked phone - I'm just out of Switzerland too much. | | | | | Recently I got a free Sony Xperia T from Orange. It was the first time in my life I got a subsidized phone from any carrier because I got a crazy-good deal on orange.ch.
So guess my surprise when I realized my Xperia T is not SIM-locked. |

Done some research.
1. Calls
I have a Migros mobile contract, and for that, one can sign up for their World Option Flex at CHF 9 per month, which gives you much better prices when calling from abroad. Not for data, though. The good thing is that you activate and deactivate by SMS, so that you do not pay the CHF 9 per month forever.
2. Data
Prices go from CHF 7 for 24 hours and 10MB (Europe) or 14 EUR for preferred countries, to CHF 0.20/30kB.
I have not found any good deals.
3. Surprises
Also, you can set your mobile settings to allow only a certain budget for calls from abroad, and / or to be alerted when a certain amount has been used up in any given month. At least, this avoids surprises. I would think that other providers have the same service.
The guy at mobilezone had no clue what I was talking about when I asked him about this, so I thought I should send the link: http://www.migros.ch/de/supermarkt/m...ment/surf.html
Has anyone found a better deal for data transfers?

It seems that they changed the offer, so I was lucky in 2016. I hope that I can keep the same conditions going forward becasue it has been the best internet/phone deal i have ever done.

You cannot use the 2nd SIM in a 4G LTE router as your hotspot.
This reduces the effectiveness of the offer dramatically. It's still a very good offer but not barnstorming as it would have been with the 2nd SIM hotspot usage.
Pity. | | | | | Sales Performance, go figure.
I've signed up nevertheless, reckoned I'd use the backup SIM in the smartphone and the primary in a modem.

| | Re: Which mobile phone provider? Swisscom, Sunrise, Orange....
