Orange SMS problem ( problem sending to a Chinese number )
 

I just subscribed to Orange Young with IPHONE 4. but i could not send sms to a Chinese phone number. Does anyone have a similar problem sending sms with Orange to an international number? how to fix it

I'm with Orange and can SMS to foreign numbers. Did you enter the country code correctly?

Not that I'm aware of. Maybe your recipient's Chinese provider is blocking it for some reason?

you do know that SMS was never designed to travel from one network to another and that we're lucky to have what we have?

I recommend contacting your provider who might be able to advise. Does it work the other way at all?

Oh and I don't expect them to do much to help, just to set your expectations.

Don´t you have to put in your SMSC number in your config ?

I also have orange and none of my SMSs make it overseas :( unless I'm there and roaming on their networks.

After several unsuccessful attempts to send an SMS to South America I called up Orange's customer service and they said they would look into the matter. Surprisingly, I got an answer a few days later.

The explanation was that the SMS system is not compatible. Uhm.... When in South America, I can send an SMS from my mobile, so the system must be compatible? Corporate speak for "I don't know why it doesn't work".

Try using Skype - works for me.

Never tried sending a SMS to a Chinese number from orange, but my coop number, which uses orange network, did not work in Shanghai, ever it could connect to the local mobile networks.

There might be a setup / settings option where you can specify the SMSC or use the Orange link for an automated setup.

Thanks for this info. So is it mandatory to configure the device for Orange customers? the sales person does not mention this. and I have no problem sending sms to other swiss number without configuration.
