Telephone exchange map

Hello,

In Australia, it is quite straightforward to find your nearest telephone exchange, and this is handy as the closer you are to the exchange, the higher the speeds obtained from your ISP (all other things being equal).

As I look about for places to live in Switzerland, I wish I could see the locations of telephone exchanges as I work from home, and stream a great deal of HD video. If I found two places I liked, but one was 3km closer to the local telephone exchange - I would surely choose that property to rent.

I don't suppose this is of great concern for most people, but I thought I would put it to the forum to ask if anyone has been in the same circumstance, and if they found a way to access this information in their area.

Perhaps I could ask swisscom for example, I'm not sure at the moment.

Cheers,

Sam

This is for DSL ( DSLAM ).

In OZ:

Over here, it is Swisscom.

In Switzerland, I have never heard of anyone asking for this. When I think about it, I think the reason would be due to...

a) The country is densly populated and has a lot of Swisscom exchanges, thus the distance between exchange and house is on average likely to be less of a concern

b) Many households are cabled for cable TV, and almost every cable operator (of which there are more than 300) provide internet access over cable systems, and this can provide much higher speeds than DSL. eg: upc cablecom currently have 100 Mbps download as their fastest internet speed on their cable TV system

So the majority of the population don't have issues with speed of internet access.
