Home phones and jacks

Hi,

My grandmother lives in Switzerland, and I'm looking to get her a phone for the hearing impaired.

Any idea if I can buy a phone in the US and have it work in Suisse?

Are the phone cable jacks the same?

I can bring a power adapter for the electricity plug.

Any help would be truly appreciated.

Thanks,
J

No, US phones and jacks are different. She can buy a special Swiss phone here, I believe they radiate a low power signal which is picked up by the user's hearing aid. (They can't use an ordinary phone as the ear is already filled with the hearing aid)

Re: Home phones and jacks

If it is a weird phone it will work w/o any problem. Just an adapter from RJ11 to the Swiss Reichle-Plug is needed (Available in Migros/Interdiscount etc.).

If it is a wireless phone. It may work, but the frequency will interfere with the European mobile phone network frequency. In the very worst case your Grandma will get a visit from the BAKOM/OFCOM (our FCC) and she has to pay several thousand francs/dollars.
