Old TV disposal / removal / recycling

We moved into a house that we are renting, and the old tenants left a 300+ lb old Bang & Olufsen rotating Television. I don't need the additional Billag tax for a TV we don't use/don't want. I first tried to give it to some house laborers (Spanish) - they indicated interest, then when I moved in, found that they had left it. I tried the Heil Armee, they didn't want it. Now I'm trying to find someplace to take it. I read about BAN - but have no idea where to take this to get it recycled...

Any help is appreciated

Re: Old TV disposal / removal / recycling

Any places that sells electronics goods has to take it back for recycling w/o any charge. Examples are Interdiscount, Migros Electronic, Fust, Manor or whatever is next to you.

Re: Old TV disposal / removal / recycling

Any electronics shop will take it from you. Easiest is usually the nearest Media-Markt, M-Electronics, or whatever. When you buy a new set, that includes a recycling fee, which covers the cost to the distributor of dealing with it.

So does the distributor get paid something each time someone drops off an old TV or kettle? Or do they just keep the tax on everything they sell?

There is a small tax on new electronic goods to cover the recycling cost of old electronic goods (Doesn't matter how old). (Law)

More information how it works.

Yes. We took a big box of assorted old electronic junk to Fust ... and a salesman gladly (it seemed) took it from us.

Load it onto a shopping trolley at a mall and wheel it into the shop. Begin pricing new TV`s - while asking them to please re-cycle this old one......

if you are renting from an agency tell the agency the old tenants left some junk and they have to sort it out - and you are not paying for the removal !

Well, you have a computer, so you have to pay anyway!

No you don't, as a forum veteran you really should know better and abstain from spreading false information, with a computer you only have to pay for a TV license if you have a subscription with an online TV service like Zattoo.

Privater Fernsehempfang:

Second, it was about Billag. And first and foremost, you left out some crucial parts:

Sorry, but I'm with Tom on this one. We had a Billag control almost 2 years ago that informed us that we need to pay for each computer in the house because it could receive TV and radio.

And no, we don't and never did have a program like Zattoo.

Maybe that is what Billag says. But would a court of law uphold that.

It is practically impossible to find a computer these days that won't play multimedia. Even if you manually de-install the components, your next software update will probably put them back. Thus you can never really know for sure that you don't have these components. If, however, having them rather than using them is the criterion for paying, that is a very vague and unenforcable way of creating legal categories. I'd like to see a fully blown legal test case involving a person who didn't use these capabilities on their computer and didn't know they had them. I'm also pretty sure Billag would go out of their way to avoid such a test case.

Each computer? It's once for the whole household! Perhaps one of your computers has a DVB-T USB dongle/card, or one of your computer monitors is a TV, otherwise it should be radio only...

It is nearly impossible to leave out the radio license (mobile phone with FM tuner/smart phone/car stereo/alarm clock/computer...) but not impossible to get rid of the tv license.

A Billag employee can tell you whatever he wants, but what counts is the law (and what's written on the Billag web site reflects the law far more closely than what the Billag employee told you).

This is not a matter of opinion, Tom is wrong.

(oh, and the talk was about the TV license, the Radio license is a separate matter, Radio and TV licenses are two separate licenses!)
