Subtitles Available on Swiss TV?

HI
Does anyone know if there are English subtitles available on Swiss TV? I have severe to profound hearing loss and cannot understand what is said without subtitles. I have heard of a device here called the teletext...does anyone know how to obtain one?

No. English is not an official language.

Now, if you can read French, Italian or German...

Re: Subtitles Available on Swiss TV?

I can read French. I have not seen anything with French Subtitles here either. Any advice is welcome.

Merci

Re: Subtitles Available on Swiss TV?

Teletext should be built in your TV. The programs with subtitles on teletext are usually identified by a symbol at the beginning and the page number. But as said before, depending on the channel you are watching it will be French, German or Italian. And not all programs provide the service. On the German teletext you would search for "Untertitel" in the "Inhalt", don't know about the French or Italian channels though. SF1 aand SF2 I think the page is 177.

Re: Subtitles Available on Swiss TV?

Thank you for the information. I did eventually manage to find teletext in the TV menu. My temporary flat only has analog TV so my choices of channels is limited in general and even further by the 1 or 2 that are occasionally captioned. It's a start so I appreciate it.

Re: Subtitles Available on Swiss TV?

1. When trying to find subtitles, try pages 777, 150 and 888 in that order. I've put links to more complete lists of subtitle pages in Subtitles and Analogue TV List.

2. Subtitling on French channels is fairly common (particularly TV5), on Swiss channels occasional, and poor to non-existent on German channels. If you can get hold of TV from the UK, subtitling is much more frequent and higher-quality.
