Compulsory radio fee if you have Internet?

Hi all,

I live in Zurich region, have Cablecom connection for TV and Internet. I do not listen to radio, but have been told by Billag that radio subscription fee is compulsory if I have Internet connection, cos I can receive it via Internet? Seems like a con? Any way I can avoid the radio fee?

Loads of discussions on here on this subject. Billag have told you correctly and the same advice applies to TV so if you are willing to run the chance yes you might get a way with it otherwise no option to opt out

Nope. You receive Swiss TV and Swiss radio via Cablecom, right? Wallabies is right, try the search... there is quite a bit about Billag here.

Don't try to screw them, you will usually end up on the short end of the stick

Once you have the ability to listen, you are liable regardless of whether you avail of the opportunity or not.

You are telling me that only blind men and deaf persons mustn't pay billag?

No they have to pay also. Blind men can listen to the radio and the deaf can watch TV, so no exemptions there either...

Re: Compulsory radio fee if you have Internet?

What happened with the initiative to finish billag and pay it directly with the taxes? It would be very much cheaper for all of us, no advertising would be required, no controllers,... no companies to feed in the middle...

They come regularly to visit my parents even when they are paying it every year... crazy.

I like the blind and deaf man comment

Re: control checks, they came round 4 times yesterday, each time my wife said I was not at home, so they said they would try again. They are definitely on commission. Why is the bill so expensive? Price and quality in Uk is much better. What excuse does Billag have for charging so much? Our family watches the international channel, none of the Swiss rubbish.

You need to pay Billag if you have a radio in your car!

You need to pay Billag if you are warm and breathing.
