Flat rate for international calls [in Germany]

While looking for a phone provider for my new flat, I discovered that a small number of providers in Germany now offer flat rates for international calls. With one of them, for an extra €4 per month I can call unlimited to any landline in most of western Europe (including the British Isles and Switzerland), and in North America and Australia.

Not sure if this is something already available in Switzerland. If not, it is something to look out for.

Re: Flat rate for international calls

a) you need to provide more information so that others might benefit. How does it work?
b) VoIP also provides this service. I am just about to test Switzernet.com for their service

Re: Flat rate for international calls

www.voipbuster.com is another good one . Free landline calls to a list of countries , cheaper rates than Skype for the others . Requires 10 euro in the account , which is used against any charges ( please read the details on the website ) .... I have been using it for more than 1 year with no issues .

It's an option that comes up when registering for a new phone connection (just to turn it on, not installing the phone lines and all that - they're already there. It has nothing to do with Internet, although you can order that at the same time if you like. The specific option that I mentioned above is "Internation Flat 1" by Arcor (www.ardcor.de). Article

At the moment I don't know how fast the Internet connection in my new place will be - not living in the middle of a city any more - so now at least I have a new option to consider.

Re: Flat rate for international calls

The internet connection for VoIP is not very demanding; it just needs to be always-on.

Are you living in Germany? What is your phone service provider (last mile)?

Re: Flat rate for international calls

Yes, Lörrach is just over the border from Basel. At the moment, I have no phone service at home (only moved in at the start of this month) but the last provider I had in Germany was Deutsche Telekom - expensive.

These international flat rates seem to be rather new (i.e. last few months) in Germany, and I don't know if such things exist in Switzerland - so I just wanted to let you all know that such things exist and may pop up in Switzerland in the future.
