I also find 8 buggy and slow, with the file manager being the worst I can remember from MS, surely creating an opportunity for a third party to come up with something better (remember xtree?).
I can understand that people don't like the UI (I'm back to Mac OS for the same reason) - but slow and buggy? The thing is lightning fast, even on older computers and I really never had any technical difficulties with it

Re: Windows 8 Desktop

I have been using it for a few weeks-Ifind a great improvement to Windows 7. And to have two desktops-one Metro and the classic Windows is great.

Have to differ... I installed the 90 day 'trial version' on my main PC (hooked up to the TV for media / games etc)... I tried.. I really tried.. but I've just reverted back to W7.

As you say, it's essentially 2 different GUIs.. the new 'start' screen plus a slightly improved 'traditional' screen. One screen is for touchscreens and the other isn't.. but when they're both loaded on the same device.. it's too unwieldy. I found myself continually skipping the start screen and couldn't find anything that compelling in the new 'traditional' screen. Certainly nothing worth paying money for.

Plus, one other killer.. I looked everywhere but could not see a way to increase the font size on the new start screen tiles so could barely read their content so no use on a lounge based TV screen.
