600chf to install Swisscom!

Hello all,

Had a very unpleasent experience today, but theres a back story behind it.
Short version - Got chargen 600chf to have my swisscom box installed.

Long Version:
When i ordered swisscom, i had to have an electrician come and do the first time installation (no choice in the matter). When he came, he had to change one of the wall sockets for the Data line. He came at about 5PM and left at around 6PM. He installed all three services and said the following day, it should be activated. I asked him how much he thought it would be and he said about 100-150chf in total. Expensive, but i can afford it, just.

The next day the internet wasnt working, so i called him up again and he said he would come round. He came round a couple of days later, and changed one wire in the exchange box outside, and everything worked fine. He was there for approx 15 minuted in total.

I got the bill yesterday. 600CHF!!!

He has charged me for three hours (about 450CHF) work, 5 days before he actually came to my house. Wtf?

I was wondering if anyone else ahs experienced this. What on earth is the 3-hours of work that he didnt do all about?

Re: 600chf to install Swisscom!

You have been... Switzerlanded!!!

Anyone else experienced that? yes, read the forum there's thousands of similar examples*...

*Although I disagree with your statement "you had no choice" because i'm sure you could have negotiated beforehand, although not so easy with "customer disservice"

No, i really didnt. On the swisscom website it even says that the first time installation (particularly if the previous tenant was not a swisscom customer, or you dont know who it was) has to be done by a professional electrician. In any case, i wouldnt have had the equipment to change the socket on the wall.

I dont mind paying for the actual installation, its the three extra hours i've been charged for that i take offence to.

Re: 600chf to install Swisscom!

Ah, yes, similar.
They guy in Swisscom ordered an installer, who came with a friend, got here, spent an hour trying to get me fixed up, only to find out that Swisscom hadn't organised a connection yet (2 people for an hour. not cheap). Then they had to have another guy come over (they didn't like the way the first company sent two people and wont use them again) when he came, only to find out that again, it was wrong, so had to have 3 visits. Luckily the guy in the shop who organised the visits was sympathetic, I didn't shout just went in confused with a irritated toddler. They wouldn't pay my charges, but did give me 3 months and the HD box free so I was really happy.
I find as long as you go in looking for a compromise and are calm, then most people will try their best to be helpful. Of course, having an overtired screaming toddler to comfort helps.

Re: 600chf to install Swisscom!

CHF 600?

I guess you need a map in your house

They charged me "only" CHF180 (in my tiny apt) for the installation from his contractor in Ticino.

Try negotiate with them.

good luck!

If the bill was wrong what are you wasting your time on here for? Why aren't you ringing him up yelling and screaming and tell him that the bill is wrong?

Yes, ok, you really did not. let's move on

PS: I won't bother explaining the reality of life then, or why I only paid 80chf for similar installation...

I need an electrician to setup phone line?

I really dont understand why you're making a big deal of this? why would i lie about needing an electrician? If you're looking for an argument about a small petty thing, I cant be bothered today. Check back tomorrow. Well done on getting it for 80 chf though. Have a biscuit.

I've asked my german-speaking assistant to sort out with them exactly what this three hour charge is for. I guess i'll find out soon. I'll be damned if im gonna pay it just because they ask for it though.

Big deal? No it's actually funny- You contest something I said, and yet you are the one who have paid 600CHF.
I paid 80chf, but you are going to contest me, so it's actually funny to receive comments from someone who paid 7.5 times higher for a similar service...

Anyway you can "show me your links" whether it's Swisscom or... a forum link (haha, what a decent trusted source). It will not change the fact that... you are wrong, you have been Switzerlanded.

I sincerely feel for you, but don't deny it that's all.

PS: if you look more in the forum, also look the port where I mentionned how that particular task on your link can be done by yourself.

PS2: by law they can not force you to use their own electrician. Therefore it's free market and you could have negotiated a much better offer, as someone else said to you already,

Anyway, have good day and good luck for your future switzerlandages.

Re: 600chf to install Swisscom!

I'm sorry to hear about the crazy high costs. I'd be upset too. I'm not sure what the explanation is for the charge attributed to a visit five days too early. But in terms of the time, one thing to consider is that people here may charge for their travel time too. Hope it gets sorted - let us know how you get on.

Looks like not only have you been Switzerlandised but also English Forumlised

Ignore the rude posters, which do not help in any way, you came on here to vent as its pretty outrageous amount, and you are doing the right thing and asking for justification from the electrician.
My bill came to CHF200 for the same thing, he charge 1.5hours but was here for 20 mins, he charged for driving to and from my apartment , yet also billed a neighbor the same travel even though he did us at the same time, i was lazy and couldnt be bothered to argue the toss, but for chf600, different story.

Wow, you can see on the Swisscom website that Phil did not check their prices? Thats very Big-Brotherish.

PS: Phil, did you consider that you wont longer need a landline (a ~20.- saving) + you would have no longer to pay the basic cable fee which is normally hidden in your Nebenkosten (another ~25.-)

Re: 600chf to install Swisscom!

To give you another datapoint -

Swisscom, also required to have one of their approved local electricians do whatever it was he had to do to connect whatever had to be connected. Cost: ca CHF 1000 - and that was many many years ago.

Next time around, already Swisscom customers, again required to have the electrician do his thing. Cost: ca CHF 500.

Both bills listed charges for work done prior to the day the electrician came to the house - when we questioned this, apparently there was 'preparation' work required.

15 years here, and I've learned to prepare myself to fork out CHF 1000 every time a skilled tradesman crosses my threshold. If it comes out less than that, I'm pleasantly surprised.

But yes, you've been Switzerlanded. As have we all.

(Moving to Switzerland has made me most appreciative of OH's DIY skills.)

i pay nothing for my landline right now (voip). and the cheapest swisscom fiberglass package is still more expensive than cablecom yet 10 times slower than the cablecom connection.

So yes indeed it's possible to pay nothing like you did, or to pay cheaper than 600chf...

Please do not click on this link. Because the free market of ewz.zürinet is just too sweet. Just one word 'symetric speed'.
