Hello Swisscom and Orange, goodbye Sunrise

http://www.swisscom.ch/content/dam/s...ztest-2012.pdf

Well, Sunrise doesn't only fail to shine with its lackluster customer support, its network now also sucks big time.

Orange is pulling ahead (which continues to surprise me, considering that they're not actually upgrading their network) and now comes in second behind Swisscom.

Compared to the Austrian networks, Swiss networks all pretty much suck donkey a**, but if you want to be on the best Swiss network, Swisscom's the way to go.

Of course, they didn't check rural areas, where Orange (still no EDGE in Thurgau, btw.) is way behind Sunrise and Swisscom.

Re: Hello Swisscom and Orange, goodbye Sunrise

Yes, I confirm, I've left Sunrise too because of the very low quality, both Internet and voice.
In Basel sometimes I was getting a better network from Germany!

Anyway Swiss telecoms are really too expensive, and the quality is really far even from Italian standards.

Quality, Italian and standards all in the same sentence - you don't see that very often...

Ah ah :-)

Well in the private field Italy is quite good, many big top quality brand names are Italian

In the public sector... Well... It is really difficult to do worse!

Swisscom's coverage in the alps is much better, FWIW.

Re: Hello Swisscom and Orange, goodbye Sunrise

Anyway: I'm a quite happy Swisscom user.
Signal is quite good and above for Internet, I can speak with Skype from Basel to Chiasso quite well. Impossible with Sunrise.

Of course it's the most expensive, but at least prices are slowly dropping.

Well, we prefer Sunrise and hate Orange.

I can even get Sunrise access in Italy when we visit the cousins, so no roaming costs.

Sunrise has outsourced it's network to the Chinese company Huawei earlier this year. If you think the quality is bad now, just wait till they do the switch to all Chinese-engineered network equipment

Re: Hello Swisscom and Orange, goodbye Sunrise

My husband and I were both with SUnrise. Coverage was unreliable at best.
Now my husband is Swisscom & I am Orange.
I think Orange is quite good. . . husband is new to Swisscom so time will tell

We have Orange. In Bern it was ok. In winterthur, it absolutely sucks, so we're looking at Swisscom.

Sucks here, too.

My wife had it, but got rid of it.

Re: Hello Swisscom and Orange, goodbye Sunrise

Never had a problem with Sunrise voice or text, but I live in a well populated Kanton. The Internet is also pretty good. I have no problem streaming internet radio when not at home. Never tried to watch tv with it.

For the price you pay, no other service comes close. Unlimited calls to Sunrise, free unlimited texts, and 500 MB data for 15 chf per month. I don't think you can even get unlimited texts for 15 CHF with anyone else

Plus they give the best discounts on phones and tablets with aa subscription

Re: Hello Swisscom and Orange, goodbye Sunrise

We have had nothing but problems with Orange and in fact switching over to Swisscom. The main reason is their unreliable coverage areas. We have been in several situations where my Swisscom friends receive coverage and we are left searching for signal

The Swisscom mobile network has been 100% Ericsson since the early GSM days.

Huawei was nobody 5 years ago, they got big so fast by copying other companies equipment and selling it for a fraction of the price. They are all about cheap prices, not quality. Then there is the question about them being funded by the Chinese government, which makes some countries like the US and Australia ban them out of security concerns. "National" cellular providers (ie: like Swisscom) usually won't take Huawei due to these reasons, however "budget" providers flock to Huawei because they like cheap prices.

Orange lacks 900MHz frequencies, which is a big setback in terms of coverage. They tend to focus on providing good coverage in cities, but once you are in rural areas you're usually out of luck.

Swisscoms xDSL network will be replaced with Huawei soon. Current Alcatel-Lucent DSLAMs will be replaced in the next couple of years.

No idea what the future is for Swisscom mobile network though.

In mid-2011 Swisscom invited five leading technology providers to submit tenders for the renewal of the entire mobile network. Ericsson came up with the best offer in operational terms and was awarded the contract for the upcoming modernisation. Swisscom and Ericsson have already been working together for many years, which means that the processes are well established and new technologies can easily be implemented, offering substantial potential savings for Swisscom with regard to operating costs. The investment plans remain unchanged: over the next five years Swisscom will invest several hundred million Swiss francs in its mobile network.

All 6,000 mobile base stations are to upgraded and connected to fibre-optic lines

Re: Hello Swisscom and Orange, goodbye Sunrise

I have a TV, internet and mobile from Sunrise for the last 4 month and I am very happy so far. TV box and internet box (Fritzbox) are the top quality and has never given me any problem.
Surise have a offer like 25Mb/s (20 goes for internet and 5 for TV)
Internet works very well ( 4 people in my family use it) - the real download speed goes to around or more than 2MB .
TV channels in different languages

So, my personal opinion - go for it!!!
