Well no, because obviously that's Sylvester MCCoy, but he's up there with the greats.

I loved Tennant in the role, I admit, but "the best"? No.

It was originally launched as an educational program; teaching children about the past. They even had a couple of teachers along in the Tardis who would give short explanations about the Aztecs or whatever.
Back to the original idea, a English teacher and a "PE" teacher are now traveling with the doctor.

I don't know, but you could simply download it (torrents). Use something like BitThief to download, so you don't also upload, and you will be fine.

Barring that, I have recorded most of this series off Cablecom, and I might be willing to host a Who "Party" if there was enough interest (5-6 people, maybe?).

Re: Dr Who (Spoiler Alert 2013)

Oh no! Went for the gender switch idea. Master is now Mistress. What a load of crap. I doubt even a Time Lord/Lady can change their basic chromosome structure.

I have to say this series of stories are even more underwhelming than ever. Maybe the Christmas special will actually be worth watching.

Re: Dr Who (Spoiler Alert 2013)

I actually enjoyed it. Though I would have much preferred John Simm to have come back as the Master.
I have to say though that I can't believe the series is almost over, I feel I still am waiting for it to get going.
I don't feel the same connection with Peter Capaldi's doctor as I did with David Tennant and Matt Smith. Come back David!

Re: Dr Who (Spoiler Alert 2013)

I was enjoying it too, up to that point. A story that can actually take time to develop for once instead of the rushed single episode ones. Then bam, not only do Time Lords/Ladies scramble their genes - they can make completely new ones.

Re: Dr Who (Spoiler Alert 2013)

hi,

I have been enjoying series 8. Did not enjoy The Forest episode but apart from that it has been pretty good. Really enjoying having Peter as the Doctor, though I enjoyed Matt Smith and and David Tennant it is great to have an older actor playing the part. I also like that they have returned more of the horror element to the series.

Sadly Russell T Davies almost destroyed the part of the Master with John Simm's last set of episodes. Back in the Doctor's wife their was mention of a Timelord who regenerated into a woman so it was hardly a big surprise.

Looking forward to next week's episode.

Re: Dr Who (Spoiler Alert 2013)

Just a casual eye on the forum names but it does seem to be the Ladies who go for Tennant as the best, funny that

I'm enjoying this Doctor he just needs more Malcolm Tucker, it's about time it catered for those of us over 30

Re: Dr Who (Spoiler Alert 2013)

Here's what some reviewers think of the last series. What are your views?

http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-29987273

Personally I think the material let him down for much of it and also Clara was a bit too prominent sometimes. Can't really make an impact if he isn't on screen.

The only story that made an impression on me was the Orient Express in Space one and that's only because they rushed the explanation at the end so I have no idea what it was all about. The last double episode was better because there was time for the story to develop more, but it still lacked something I can't put my finger on. Can't say I personally liked the Missy character that much, didn't seem genuine in the way that Delgado was. Seemed to be trying to give it some menace, but only ended up feeling trite and artifical. For me the outstanding character was the comic at the funeral home.

Hopefully the next series will be better, but I really wish they'd go back to 26 episodes a season so we can get some decent 2/3/4 episode stories.

Re: Dr Who (Spoiler Alert 2013)

I've enjoyed this season much more that the past few years' although it still has some problems. At the beginning, I was pleased that Clara was finally getting a personality, but then it turned out that the personality wasn't all that interesting. She's just too perfectly unflappable to be believable. Her relationship with Danny was stilted and rushed too - we never saw them falling in love, we were just suddenly told that they were.

I've given up hope that we'll ever have 4-parter again, although the longer runnjng time of the new series means we should get as much story into a 2-parter as we used to get in a 4-parter - except the writers are too busy obsessing over companions and mythologising the Doctor instead of world-building and writing good stories.

I'm kind of hopeful that Capaldi's "I'm an idiot, in a box..." speech marks the start of more adventures and less navel-gazing.

I loved Gomez as the Master though, I though she was delightfully alien and her attitude to the Doctor seemed to hark back to the early days when Pertwee and Delgado seemed to be fractious old friends rather than cardboard-cutout arch-nemeses. Her performance was gleefully unhinged - she had a plan to get at the Doctor and really didn't care about humanity one way or the other.

Honestly though, Moffat's story arcs are worn-out and there was a lot of mess and spectacle that was only really saved by Capaldi and, to a large extent, Coleman making the best of what she was given.

Re: Dr Who (Spoiler Alert 2013)

This is the first time since Christopher Eccleston's Doctor that I haven't been devastated (well, maybe that's a bit strong) that the series is over.
I agree that Clara and Danny's love affair was too rushed, I didn't feel as upset as I should have been when Danny died (eventually).
The connection between the Doctor and Clara never seemed strong, unlike Amy and Matt Smith's Doctor, and of course Rose and David Tennant.
Even the cybermen weren't as scary.
Let's hope the Christmas episode has more to offer.
