So why did no one tell me a new series started yesterday?
Luckily I have sunrise TV so I can go back and look at programs that were in the past.
Also luckily I can see it in English on BBC; I used to watch Dr. Who in German on Fox but I am not sure I would have understood yesterdays episode in German.
Not sure I understood it in English anyway
Good the story line is especially written for Dr. Who; in the past they were often science fiction short stories that he was somehow pasted in |

Hi,
while it has been advertised a lot both on tv and online. It helps to have seen one of the classic Tom Baker Dr Who stories "Genesis of the Daleks" to really appreciate the episode. Also it is 7 years since Davros has been in Dr Who.
The story was not particularly hard to follow. It all boiled down to if you were able to save a child that you knew would in later life kill millions of people would you save them or let the die. It is that moral dilemma that is at the heart of the story.
There will another 11 episodes and a Christmas special.
Have fun
Martin

He just threw his screwdriver to the poor boy and let him sort it out for him self. Maybe that was the trigger to madness?
Anyway, the Daleks and the Time War must be one big point in time. Most likely you can not too much against it.

Well the points I found hard to follow were "what role was Missy supposed to be playing and why was she involved (maybe hoping to take over the Daleks after Davros death?)"
and "Why was Davros's representative claiming they did not know Dr Who's location when they already had a spy in the camp (the one who reported the location of the Tardis)"

There's something about Peter Capaldi as the Dr that bothers me and I can't work out what it is.
He's a cracking actor and he's always spectacular but...
Maybe it's the hoody. It's not the eyebrows.
Perhaps it's because he looks like he could be Clara's dad, and we've been used to the past few Doctors flirting with their companions and us not thinking it's a bit seedy because he only looked a bit older (although on reflection it's a LOT seedy because he'd actually be 900 ish years older...). And I know that previous actors were quite a lot older than Tennant and Smith (even Eccleston -ah, Eccleston...) but still.
Hmm.
Michelle Gomez is brilliantly madcap, however.

Well, it could be the storylines also. I felt this one let Missy dominant everything every time she was on the screen. And yes, she did need to do that for most of the time, but the Doctor didn't do the same when he was on screen. I don't know, maybe it was because he was in more one-on-one scenes, but he came over as pretty insipid compared to her to me in this story.

Watched the first one and thought it must just be me, because it was about the most boring episode in years. Now the second Dalek sewers one was even more boring and unimaginative.
Who's writing this stuff now?? Still it will save me an hour a week...

Hi,
having been born the year Dr Who started and fondly remembering "Genesis of Daleks" as on of the best ever stories I enjoyed the magician's apprentice/witch's familiar. In fact I rewatched them yesterday.
Though there were some faults with the stories, the Unit part and the Dalek sewers they were me 2 of the best episodes for a long time as the provided the ability to learn more about the characters. The story was not difficult to understand and the conversation between Davros and the Doctor will definitely be the piece that I will remember. A couple of brilliant performances from Peter Capaldi and Julian Bleach.
I remember the excellent Roger Delgado and I definitely think that Michelle Gomez is the best master since the original version. She had some wonderful lines and provided both pieces of comedy and the most chilling part...when Clara was in the Dalek and she was trying to get the Doctor to kill her.
As no one died I wonder how long before we will see Missy and Davros again.
Not perfect but a great start to the series.
Have fun
Martin

The writer is Steven Moffat. Also writes Sherlock.

OK - it may be my residual baby brain but is someone willing/able to answer a question about last night's episode? Yes, I've rewound and watched the bit again... It's to do with the reason why that specific character was sent to fetch Clara's phone... |

It is all explained in the first few minutes with the Dr talking about being a fan of Beethoven and going back and not finding him and so transcribing all Beethoven's music. In the end the question is who wrote Beethoven's music ? That was what was referred to as the bootstrap paradox.
In other words based on events in the future that he knew the Dr went back in time and triggered the events that happened in the future. However, it is a paradox as if the events in the past had never taken the place the events in the future would not have happened. It is a paradox.
I hope that helps
Have fun

Thanks!
Yes, I got the Beethoven thing, but couldn't quite work out the details of how he changed the future in the episode. A couple of glasses of wine probably didn't help.
I think I'll have to watch it again. |

He got a message from "ghost" doctor that enabled him to figure out what was going on. He then programmed the hologram of the "ghost" doctor to send that message.
Where did the message come from?
