| | Re: Dr Who (Spoiler Alert 2013) | Quote: | | | | I thought this whole series was a bit... meh... to be honest and that makes my Inner Geek very sad. Actually, it's an Outer Geek, but never mind...
I did think that the final two episode were outstanding, however. And I would agree that I found Clara a little troubling, she just wasn't a good fit with the new Doctor. But then... suddenly, beautifully, she was. He became more like an enraged, grieving parent I think and that worked. The character is always a little angry, I find, but he was magnificently furious in the last couple of stories when trying desperately to find a solution to the Impossible Girl's impossible situation.
I think Clara and Me are a well-suited odd couple: an intergalactic Thelma and Louise - so far off the edge as to make it impossible for them to return to anything remotely resembling real life.
I was glad to see that the screwdriver made a welcome return. Am looking forward to the Christmas episode! | | | | | I was going to write my thoughts on this last series, but now I don't have to.
You did it for me! I agree with everything you said, I think that without the last two episodes the series would have been disappointing, but I was left wanting more at the end of Saturday's episode.
Let's see now what the Christmas episode has to offer.....

I'm intrigued by the dynamic of him and River Song, now that they're a similar age! Don't get me wrong, watching Alex Kingston run rings around the past two doctors has been an absolute joy, but they flirted back. I get the impression that Capaldi's Doctor has forgotten how... The trailer looked a lot of fun...
Ok. Marking beckons... Must. Turn. Forum. Off. Is too distracting!

Hi,
I didn't any of the episodes confusing, I just thought that after the excellent penultimate episode that the finale was a wasted opportunity. It had some great bits but in end I suppose I thought it would go in a different direction.
I hope the Christmas episode is not bad as the trailer but then again there have been a lot of dreadful Christmas episodes. It will be good to see River Song again. For those who get confused in her timeline this story takes place just after the "Angels take Manhattan" which was the episode where Amy and Rory left.
Have fun

| | Re: Dr Who (Spoiler Alert 2013) | Quote: | | | | | I still have a couple of episodes to see, but I am very disappointed with the current story lines. It's like they have run out of ideas. Capaldi is great - best Doc since John Pewtwee, but it's turning into Shakespeare does sci-fi, rather than the series I have watched on and off since he very first one... | | | | | Agreed.
I had my doubts in the beginning about Capaldi, but he is very good and has made the character his own - like most things he has done.. but I am weary of the content and the all-over-the-place writing goes no where. Not even Capaldi can save the story and some episodes have gone by half watched.
Interesting to see what the Christmas episode will be like..

Indeed confirmed BaselLife. I guess Moffat will be concentrating on Sherlock for one thing this year, as well as the Beeb covering the big sporting events to come. http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-35388748
Let's hope the new guy can write a decent script! |

Hi,
I think it would be a very bad idea. I liked Matt Smith but his time has passed. When Peter stops playing the doctor it should be a new actor or actress.
Have fun

I'm probably in the minority, but I didn't like Matt Smith. He was way too doe eyed for my taste... But I am still celebrating getting rid of Clara. Man, I really hated Clara.
I was stupidly happy about John Hurt on the short episodes he played. I'm a fan of John Hurt, even if he's a bigger walking spoiler than Sean Bean.
I actually enjoy Capaldi (shoot me, I like Dr. Who's played by seasoned actors). I just feel like the stuff he's been given has not been too gorgeous (I mean, the sun glasses were just... well... ).

Capaldi handled the humor better than anyone before him and he certainly gave the Doctor that edge.. but not even brilliant Capaldi could save the rambling, nonsense and sometimes boring all-over-the-place writing.
Matt Smith has a wonderful natural youth & energy which lends itself particularly well to the Doctor, I think anyway.
I totally agree about Confusing Clara - who always looks like she has a hot poker up her bum giving her that one-size-fits-all startled expression. I often wondered if she slept with match sticks in her eyes.. acting homework. |

The content really hasn't been great... I still joke about the good old "Mommy" - that was an awesome 2-episode. I liked the recent torture in a box one too, but in general the writing has been leaving a bad je ne sai quoi behind. Disappointment. I think that's it...
OH was a fan of the "secretary" companion (that's how I call Donna ). I liked Rory... I don't know why, but I liked goofy Rory... (Riversong doesn't count as a companion does it? ).
Oh well, hopefully they will get the new season out eventually and not put it on perpetual "in production" like a certain mean director (YES, I'M LOOKING AT YOU, MISTER SCOTT!).

Dr Mysterio will guest star in the Christmas special this year. http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-37591556
Another comic book character, just what we need. Already inundated with Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, League of Tomorrow, etc. Somehow I don't think I'm going to be watching this year. Totally uninterested.

Clara (Jenna Coleman) makes a far better job of Queen Victoria compared to her Doctor Who role.

Peter Capaldi leaves at the end of the year. Christmas show will be his last. http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-38805151
Never given any decent scripts to work with, which is a shame. Didn't really manage to put his stamp on the character in the same way others have because of it.
