Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

FYI:
Switzernet has gone down. Site is out of commission and Moneyhouse shows bankruptcy.

A few EFers trying to make contact - so far, no answers.

I used them last yesterday afternoon when all was OK. Now all calls give and "engaged" tone.

Sadly I was about CHF30 in credit with them...

Well, Switzernet is up again and I shall not be running my account in credit with them again...

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

I have been using for 3 months voip services from ovh.fr, this year they have started offering voip services in switzerland.

Got the basic plan to run some tests and decided to stick with it, I used to have switzernet. By the way, switzernet hosts their services on ovh servers

I have a SIP account with Unlimited CH landlines + 40 countries for only 0.99€/month. I can also choose among mobile packages from 3€/month for 1h or 3h mobile package for just 10€/month.

The downside, at least for me, is that their website is totally in french and its not so easy to find someone of their support who speaks english, however, is a hell of a deal.

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

I have got this massage:

DNS failure on the day of May 30 struck a part of our network. The situation is now restored but after this incident, some phones do not contact the SIP servers.
In order to expedite the resolution of connection problems, we advise affected customers to restart their internet router and SIP phone to force the DNS update.

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

I looking to set up a premium business account with Sonetel. Comes with decent prices and lots of free countries. Easy to set up extensions and has a cool voice application that is great out of the box or with your own recordings, route to extensions or route to phone numbers, including handy numbers.

This is surely an improvement over my existing. Monthly subscription is comparable to Switzernet.

www.voipcheap.com - 3 months free phone to phone calls when credit is loaded and calls to landlines are free (worldwide) if called from a computer. I've used it for several years and very satisfied.

I've been using www.voipbuster.com for 3 years now and very happy with the quality of service on wifi and data connection. But they don't offer dedicated number.

I can repeat everything Matroska said.

The service is excellent value for money, but a complete pain-in-the-@ss to set up. However, now that I have gone thru the pain, I intend to give up everything else and just stick with OVH. That and Google Voice.

Do you have a "landline" number for GV?

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

Yes I do. It forwards to a US based SIP provider and works well when I am not in the US too.

I could actually live with just Google Voice for all my telecom needs...

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

Thanks. So it's presumably a US number. It will probably take a while before Google starts offering Swiss numbers, or do you know different?

In fact the idea of associating numbers with landlines is pretty much obsolete, so we can hope that the whole national/regional/local number thing will die out sometime in the not-too-distant future. It will take some time, because it's so deeply ingrained in the mind of Otto Normalverbraucher. He still thinks that the telephone is something separate and different from the internet. But I can imagine that even he will one day get used to "dialling" other kinds of identifiers (à la Skype or Google Voice or Whatsapp), instead of just old-fashioned numbers. When that happens, regionalised telephone numbers will finally be a thing of the past. The traditional operator companies and other vested interests will continue to promote the status quo, of course...

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any further info regarding Switzernet ? Seems that they have been bankrupted several times.

They still seem to offer the best deal in Switzerland, but I would be nervous making a pre-payment to them.

Anyone had any problems cancelling a monthly abonnement to Switzernet ?

Thanks.

Put this URL in Chrome:

http://www.shabex.ch/en/co/pub/switzernet_sarl_CH-550.1.034.751-7.htm#04.07.2013

Switzernet Sàrl in Ecublens (VD), CH-550-1034751-7 (SOGC of 17.05.2013, p. 0/7192292). By decision of 13 June 2013, the presiding judge of the district of Lausanne granted the request for restitution of time and canceled the delivery of the company's bankruptcy.

Seems it might be time to find another provider.

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

Pretty cool combination:
  • >>www.netvoip.ch<< for incoming calls. (=they give you a Swiss number)
  • >>www.freevoipdeal.com<< for outgoing calls (can be configured to show the netvoip# on outgoing calls)
    • the latter is a subsidiary of Betamax, you can compare all Betamax subsidiary´s prices >>here<<.
  • tying everything into simple usage: >>www.pbxes.org<<
  • If you switch to a paying account with pbxes, you can add a google-voice trunk (voice.google.com). This gives you a US phone#, with (currently) free unlimited outgoing calls to the US&Canada.
That´s just the start, leaving mobiles out of the equasion.

Regards,
Christian

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

After the last Switzernet scare I moved to Sonetel and have been very happy with them so far. Their software is highly configurable and I found for my mix of calls it works out cheaper than Switzernet.

If you are going sign up please PM me for a referer/discount code.

OVH have stopped offering the product to new sign-ups. Any other alternatives?
