Sony Xperia Z : What do you think ?

Althought it looks stunning and impresive here http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/...ones/xperia-z/

On similar lines as this one http://www.englishforum.ch/tv-internet-telephone/160383-nexus-4-would-you-trust-lg-make-decent-phone.html

I would like to know your opinion on Sony Xperia Z.
Do you think it will be one of the best phones of 2013 compared to iPhone and Samsung's next one.

If anyone has used Xperia before, how was your experience considering battery life, durability and hardware.
It is available in digitec for CHF 749. Does it justify the cost.

thanks !!!!

Re: Sony Xperia Z : What do you think ?

If you wait there's always gonna be something coming round the corner. HTC is rumored to be bringing out their new flagship phone the M7 around the MWC which starts at the end of the month. Google is rumored to be planning to bring out the Nexus 5 in 2 or 3 months and the new Galaxy and iPhones will be out May or June. Personally I think Autumn is the best time to buy a phone but obviously if you wait 3, 4 months the new generations will be coming out soon....Personally I'd just check the reviews, maybe have a look at the phone in person and if you like it, buy it. I've got the S3 myself but one good thing about Sony phones I find is that relatively few people have them at the moment

you mean exclusivity..

About M7 , yes I read about this too. But I have been using HTC for long . I have changed 3 HTC phones in 6 years. HTC, in my opinion is a good phone but its charm lasts only for a year or year and a half. After that it start giving you trouble.

My OH uses iPhone and it is fantastic. But being an android developer and android fan I am looking for an android option.

thanks for your inputs though !!

Re: Sony Xperia Z : What do you think ?

I replaced my HTC desire with an Xperia T last year and find it worlds better.
Been quite happy with it in terms of battery life compared to the HTC.

The Z does look nice on paper.

Re: Sony Xperia Z : What do you think ?

I bought an Experia Arc LT5i about when it came out. I'm not a "power user", but have been pleased with it for my uses, particularly the camera. Battery recharge intervals could perhaps have been better, however I think the battery is due for replacement now. What did you specifically want to know?

Since Sony bought out the partnership with Ericsson, the new Experia will be only Sony Mobile, so whether that is for the better or the worse, dunno. In any case, think I would be interested in the Experia Z, so thanks for the tip.

Re: Sony Xperia Z : What do you think ?

I am also considering to buy Xperia Z, do you know when it will release in Switzerland?

I checked in toppreise.ch ,still not available. Xperia Z is water proof, this is something that I like most.

Re: Sony Xperia Z : What do you think ?

I've been using my Sony Xperia (sorry, not really sure the model) for a little over a month and am very happy with it! Great battery life, lots of nice apps to install, good memory space. Camera also takes nice pictures and videos. We bought it for prepaid from Swisscom for 80francs in November (was released in Aug. 2013)

Re: Sony Xperia Z : What do you think ?

The first reviews say the screen isn't really so great... poor viewing angles and colour saturation. Same with the camera, detail isn't fantastic in stills or video (which is a silly software issue I think). Also, call quality is not amazing... especially at higher volumes.

Re: Sony Xperia Z : What do you think ?

...strange. I find my Experia Arc to be good on all those points, dunno why the Z would be poor on those points. Check these reviews:

Re: Sony Xperia Z : What do you think ?

The Xperia Z has no chances to sell better than whatever Samsung comes out with, but I'm pretty sure that together with the ZL it will help Sony consolidate its number 3 position in overall smartphones sales.
The Japanese managed to reach number 3 last quarter, thanks to HTC's and Nokia's inability to sell.

Re: Sony Xperia Z : What do you think ?

All the Sony-Ericsson's and Sony phones I have had all had very good build quality, especially when compared to HTC, or possibly even Samsung. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Sony phone again.

Hardware is generally "ok", but the software has traditionally been a problem in stability and frequency of updates to the latest versions of an OS. However, the Desire Z seems to be a good improvement in that regard.

Frequency of updates maybe, but I disagree about stability.
Their official ICS ROMs are extremely stable, and I hear the same stands true for the JB one that people start to receive slowlly.

Re: Sony Xperia Z : What do you think ?

I played around with the Xperia Z at MWC last month. What impressed me was that Sony is back to building lots of quality hardware and their ecosystem could rival that of Apple and Samsung; really cool consumer products (and phones/tablets could be enterprise).

Very cool to have a water resistant phone. I think they told me it could go 2m deep for about an hour? Long enough to get some shots in pool or sea. And no more ruined phones from dropping in toilet/pool/lake/sea. That is actually a huge benefit.

I am not familiar enough with Android to say that it was better/worse than Samsung/HTC etc, but I can say that Sony looks like they are back in the game.

Re: Sony Xperia Z : What do you think ?

I'm not getting a new phone any time soon and am perfectly happy with my Galaxy S2 running on Cyanogenmod 10.1 (4.2.2), but if you had told me six months ago that after all manufacturers (HTC, Samsung, Sony) announced their flagship phones for this season that the one that I'd find the most interesting appealing would have been the Sony, I'd have called you crazy. The Xperia Z is an impressive piece of tech.

Also, for those interested in mods, one of the main developers of Cyanogenmod is abandoning Samsung phones and moving on the Xperia Z, which is apparently very mod-friendly.
