Sending SMS messages to New Zealand mobiles

OK, so hopefully:

1. someone might be having a similar problem and can offer an insight, or
2. this might help someone discover that they have a similar problem

Since December none of the sms messages we have been sending from our Swiss mobiles to have been going through to Vodafone NZ mobiles!!!

We were not aware that there was an issue because everything seemed normal from our end - until we realised that people weren't replying to questions, and then the problem was found.

This is happening regardless of the Swiss operator (we have tried yallo (which uses sunrise), lebara (also uses sunrise) and coop mobile (which uses Orange).

All the Swiss operators are telling us that it should work and that it is Vodafone NZ which is rejecting the text messages

After a LOT of emails sent to Vodafone NZ they have said that they changed technologies for their SMS messages and are now using Sybase, but have assured me that Orange, Sunrise and Swisscom are compatible networks. They don't seem to be able to give me a straight answer as to why the messages aren't going through.

So to cut a long story short - don't waste your money sending sms messages to Vodafone NZ mobiles (Lebara has offered to reimburse the cost of the sms but the other operators refuse to because they said that they have fulfilled their end of the deal!).....

..anyone already aware of this or worked out a solution yet??

Only way around it I can see at the moment is to convince ALL of my family and friends to switch to Telecom as it is the only network receiving the Swiss text messages!

Re: Sending SMS messages to New Zealand mobiles

IS the problem only with the NZ vodaphone network , or vodaphone in other countries as well?

Re: Sending SMS messages to New Zealand mobiles

No idea about other Vodafone networks, sorry.

Only know that messages aren't making it through to NZ..... not just messages sent from Swiss mobiles, but also from various UK and other networks to NZ

Re: Sending SMS messages to New Zealand mobiles

All my family and friends in NZ are on Vodafone and have been getting texts from me no problems. I am with Orange here in Switzerland.

Maybe you should try the free app Kakao Talk...I use it with my sister all the time. It is great....and best of all free

Re: Sending SMS messages to New Zealand mobiles

I had the same problem aswell and I am with Yallo. I rang Vodafone in NZ and they said yes it was due to the change to Sybas which is supposedly the only company that can block spam texts reliably. So you can no longer send sms to Vodafone or 2degrees in NZ. I can receive texts from anyone but can only send them to Telecom mobiles.
So yeah dont get Yallo or Lebara if you want to send sms to NZ
