EWZ Fibre net

Last summer the streets around our place were getting dug up while the EWZ was installing a new fibre network. They've now finally installed the termination boxes into all the flats in our building and left us with a bit of information detailing who we can get internet services from. We have a choice of 6, but the problem is I've never heard of any of these ISPs. They are as follows:-

1a speed (internet only up to 100Mbps & 200chufs a month if you want 100Mbps)

Dataway (internet only up to 30Mbps, and appears to only offer IPv6)

GGA maur (internet up to 10Mbps. 20&30Mbps only if you have the TV and telephone packages)

iWay.ch (internet up to 100Mbps, and Phone)

Leunet (internet up to 30Mbps, which reduces to 10Mbps if you have the TV package, and then goes to 20Mbps if you both the TV and phone packages )

YplaY (internet up to 60Mbps, TV and Phone)

One thing to note is that all are offering synchronous speeds for all packages, meaning that the upload is as fast as the download, which is nice.

It's probably a bit early to ask this but has anybody had any experience with these ISPs?

To be honest I'm still happy pottering along with the 5Mbps I get from my current ISP, although that can be a bit tiresome when it comes to larger stuff.

Re: EWZ Fibre net

Here is a better overview of the ISP only options.
http://portal.zuerinet.ch/services/d...cecategory=isp
Here the triplex packages
http://portal.zuerinet.ch/services/d...gory=multiplay

I am with GGAMaur and have the TripLex Mini package. Happy with internet speed is as adverdised, TV is sometime a bit quirky also it lacks More 4 and E4.

If you include TV to not forget to cancel the UPC Cablecom subscription. It is approx CHF 27 per Month and normally hidden in your Nebenkosten.

I think I'd better step in here, because that's not right.

This company offers up to 100/10 (down/upstream). 90 Chuffs per month for that speed. Take internet with IPTV and you get it all on trial, free, for three months. The package also comes with telephone, but that only works after the trial period ends.

You are speaking about the good old copper cable. We are talking about the future of Fiber to the Home and symmetric speeds.

I was only going on the information that the supplied bumf gave me, so I admit what I said could be wrong in terms of the true offerings of the company. However I think the offers I've been give are based on the fact that this EWZ network offers only synchronous connections, so 100 down, 100 up.

Just to note, this installation was done completely free of charge, and I'm under no obligation whatsoever to subscribe to this service.

While 100/100 is very nice (and I would certainly find a use for it), 999 out of 1000 people won't come anywhere near to utilizing 100Mb/s up and would be better off with a much cheaper 100/10 solution. Of course, the company relies on this under-utilization since outgoing bandwidth has a significant commercial value. In effect, they can sell it twice.

So I clicked on the wrong link. Fact is the original claim was still incorrect.

Re: EWZ Fibre net

If you wait a little longer, you'll get more providers.
For example, you can check on swisscom webpage to see when they will offer it in your house:

Re: EWZ Fibre net

I don't care so much about fiber since Cablecom works well for me, but what I do find interesting are the additional international TV channels that YplaY for example seems to offer, that Cablecom, Swisscom, etc. don't have. Something that would make my French missus happy.
