Re: Swisscom TV vs UPC Horizon

According to the cablecom community site (in german, a sort of support forum), a bunch of disgruntled horizon customers met with CC and hashed out some much needed improvements in the GUI.... grouping series together and showing them as a list etc.

Anyone know a timescale for implementation?

How would we know the timescale of the implementation of the results of the meeting we didn't know about?

Re: Swisscom TV vs UPC Horizon

Various details are on the community site but in German. Im not fluent but had a look earlier. Seems like some improvements are scheduled for q2 and some for q3.... including a new more functional remote which has one button to bring you to the guide etc.

Re: Swisscom TV vs UPC Horizon

Ok I dug out the last update from the thread on the cablecom site. So, new remote and one or two other things expected this quarter, and a more functional GUI in second half of the year sometime (Cablecoms schedules always seem to slip, bear in mind).

Re: Swisscom TV vs UPC Horizon

New with Swisscom is 2 HD streams so you can record one HD program and at the same time watch another HD.

Re: Swisscom TV vs UPC Horizon

So why should cablecom users change? Just for the GUI?
A genuine question and not a sarcastic one.
[/QUOTE]

Why would people go to Swisscom? For Romandie it could be the lack of english programs from Cablecom.

If you compare with the Cablecom offer for german part of Switzerland on "classic", it makes you just want to scream! Half the programs are missing and it has been said they will not be sheduled any time soon. No BBC4, ITV3, ITV4, E4, More 4 for us.

Suisse Romande doesn't seem to interest Cablecom.

And Swisscom offers ITV1 HD and Channel 4 HD.

The offers from the those two operators are diabolical, when one has more the other one follows - but there are always important things missing whatever your choice.

"- New options when deleting recordings"

I hope this includes deleting series recordings. After our holiday we recorded a boatload of stuff. To our delight series were grouped together! Nice.

To our bemusement, going into a series and selecting one episode had no specific option to delete just the series. It did say Delete All and we could see we were in a sub/series section. OK, maybe a presumed German to English (box is set to English) typo or something, said paraphrased "Are you sure you want to delete the library?" Did it really mean to Delete All library for this series? Took a chance.....

NOPE! Deleted ALL recordings and series in the ENTIRE library.

[rant]

Good grief. WHY PUT THIS OPTION HERE? If you are in a program within a series of recordings there should be NO option for entire library deletion. A separate area there should be for Library/Hard Drive Management for deleting the entire shebang.

Damn first world problems. I'm probably just ticked off that I took a chance and lost. I think that's definitely it.

Re: Swisscom TV vs UPC Horizon

I am seeing this issue with a cablecomm hd recorder box still... was there any workaround? I can change it manually before I watch a show but this doesn't work if I setup recordings for when I'm not around.
thanks!

Re: Swisscom TV vs UPC Horizon

Nowadays there are catchup services - iplayer, itv player, 4 All and Demand 5. Why record things when you can simply use the catchup services ?

Just curious

Everything you list requires a VPN (or DNS redirect) service. It's easier just to press "record" on the Cablecom box.

Re: Swisscom TV vs UPC Horizon

I'm facing the same dilemma now - should I switch over to Swisscom TV 2.0 or stay with UPC? Due to UPC's recent price-hike and because we'd get a 40 Fr. rebate from Swisscom because we already have 2 mobile subscriptions with them, Swisscom TV is much cheaper (129 Fr. - 40 Fr. -> 89 Fr. per month, including the phone line, the maximum channel selection and 100 mbit/s (well, 90, in our case, as that's all our line will yield). I've been enjoying relatively fast internet from UPC (I had the 500 mbit line, which used to yield 470 mbit/s, now we're down to around 350), but we've hated the Horizon box from day one (it's slow, a total mess, can't find anything on it) and almost never use our landline.

So the questions to those who know both products: is the Swisscom TV 2.0 box better than the Horizon box? As this is what it's likely going to hinge on.

Re: Swisscom TV vs UPC Horizon

Well I have had Swisscom TV 2 since it started. I can only say positive about it. I have the 3 in 1 Vivo M and its perfekt.Internet speed is always 100/100 but thats with Glass Fibre.Without glass fibre I only had max 20/2. And I have never had problems with the Internet Box.

Re: Swisscom TV vs UPC Horizon

And you can also cancel the subscription for your cable connection ( radio and TV ) with UPC. Thats more money saved. I think its 33 CHF. And Swisscom gives you a HD phone free of charge

Theyve just put fiber to the street in here, I hope I'll be getting the 90 Mbps they're promising :-) I've placed the order, looking forward to getting decent quality TV again

Then you should be able to have a fiber connection in the house.Just tell Swisscom you want that.Or maybe you have already. With fiber you can get up to 1 GB/sec.Anything else is no guarantee for the speed.Glad you changed-you wont regret it

Re: Swisscom TV vs UPC Horizon

I was told that while the cable is in the road, the central isn't FTTH ready and they're not offering it here yet. Which sucks as we already have the fiber cable in the house (they preventively put that in together with the copper cable when he house was built 6 years ago)

In other words you have only copper. I had that before fiber. The speed that I got was nothing like what they stated on their website. I rang them up and they said it was because of the distance to the Central.

Yes, copper only for now - but our house is 20m away from the central, so that shouldn't be a problem :-)

Re: Swisscom TV vs UPC Horizon

Since recently the cable charge is included in the UPC packages. We switched from Swisscom Vivo S to UPC connect & play 50 and have now more than twice the download speed for 20chf less per month. I liked the Swisscom TV box better but it is not a huge difference. We were quite happy with Swisscom but we decided to switch because of their lousy customer service during our move.
