I run my own Webhosting comparison Website www.hostingliste.ch and earn lot of experience since the last years because many users report me their problems.

I would not recommend hosttech. Read the discussion on this consumer forum and you know why: https://www.ktipp.ch/artikel/d/inter...nken-pro-jahr/

With metanet, servertown or cyon you won't go wrong.

You can hit me up on the chat on my website if you like.
I help for free and like to know your experiences.
Thanks! Exactly what I need to know. Great site you have.

Re: Which webhoster to choose?

The hoststar.ch package at CHF 5.90 per month works fine for me. I changed to them after 15 years of hosting with the various mutations of Yahoo through to Aabaco, mainly because of the poor customer support in dealing with performance issues that arose from time to time.

Re: Which webhoster to choose?

I think anyone thinking of starting a new small website or upgrading an existing one would be well advised to check out Wix and Weebly.

Looks like the future to me...

Re: Which webhoster to choose?

digitalocean.com

VPS for as low as $5 per month. Although it's not really "hosting", it's better than hosting because you will have complete access to the operating system.

Why do you want a Swiss host?

I just moved to namecheap.com from another North American provider. Since I mostly work on the site in the evenings, Im happy it's their day-time there if I need support.
Because of Swiss Data Protection laws. We don't all want the FBI & NSA to be able to grab our servers whenever they feel like it. Same for GCHQ.

I second metanet.ch .

Re: Which webhoster to choose?

Is SSL an option that should be considered? Or is it just a marketing thing?

All website will (or should) be SSL. Google’s Chrome browser has forced this by showing any site with a form with a security warning. As in deed is EF...

Re: Which webhoster to choose?

Anyone who finds this thread looking for Swiss hosting - I'm impressed with https://www.infomaniak.com/en. Not the absolute cheapest and a bit of an unusual interface but good quality, and feature rich. I'd be very happy to find its US/UK dopplegangers.

Edit - a while after posting this I had a less than stellar experience with them. See page 3 if you're interested!

Re: Which webhoster to choose?

The way you set up SSL with them, for example, is a billion times easier than with a normal Cpanel setup. It's just a couple of clicks. Also if you paid for a dedicated IP address - turn it on with one click.

And yesterday I had to change something in the PHP to make a plugin work - one click.

It's not totally easy and foolproof but it's way better than most. Support is fine (they speak English). They bumped me from the 5 website plan I paid for to 20. They communicate what they're doing but not in a salesy way.

I get the impression they're good at their jobs. Not sure they're special or unique but they are the Swiss hosts I've used and I give them a thumbs up.

Re: Which webhoster to choose?

There's no reply because your question doesn't make sense. Paypal doesn't do hosting.

Anyway, I'll try. If you are making a Wordpress site, almost any host will do. You can always change it later if you want something faster.

If you have no clue how to make a website and want to make an online shop, look at Shopify.

Re: Which webhoster to choose?

I wantd to share some personal experience about the provider servertown.

The service they provide is OK and they have really good prices. The problem comes when you are trying to get support. My experience was that I opened a ticket on their webpage and des ribed the problem, it had to do with a service they do and is causing problems. They rresponded really fast, but the anser was only covering a few of the open ponts. I did then replayand then it went south. I was told that my suggestion is Schwachsinnig (what i would tranlate to idiotic) and they really gtvery unfriendly. After this I gad a disxussion with the boss abd he told be that they want to be short in their information so it might be very direct. The were not apologizing for the offience even they now want to charge an extra hour for sme service they did claim they did without me giving them the OK to do work. They caim it is in their general termsof business that they can charge up to 1 hours of consultant work without any OK from the customer.

From my expeience I would not go again with them, even being not so expensive it is not worth the effort.

That are my 2 cents about servertown

Re: Which webhoster to choose?

Figured out today, due to new privacy laws, that whoisprivacy is no longer a must if the site is in Switzerland or the EU. But with a .com site one might want to have it.

I have been with them for a while and, while their service works fine, their customer support skills suck.

Same experience, they answer standard stuff, without really reading your question and it took a couple of email exchanges until I got the answer I needed.

And I agree, they are not very friendly, as soon as it costs them time.

Am now signing up with Infomaniak and have the option to have a dedicated IP. Is this a good option to take? What would be the advantage?
