It's still an absolute rip off price for a phone. Samsung pricing for high-end devices is getting way out of control.
I agree. Although the big difference between Samsung and apple is that after about a month Samsung prices start tumbling whereas Apple takes about a year to have a minor decrease in price

Just noticed that the Samsung galaxy S5 just went below the 600CHF price mark for the first time for those who are interested currently the site is offering the white & Black colour at CHF599 (free delivery or pickup from their Basel store).
Update, Mediamarkt is now also offering the S5 at CHF599, it is also going to give every buyer a galaxy fit smartwatch if Switzerland wins over France in with world cub on the 20th!

Even without the extra would be freebee, I think its a good deal!

You should try the Samsung Note Pro 12.2", for the size of the screen it is very light and extremely fast. Plus until the 22nd of June Fust has a special offer on them for CHF 599 including a 2013 galaxy gear.

All I say is try it and see, I do not disagree that touchwiz might not be the best but the machine with its power can overcome the touchwiz "needs" and play without any lag.

for me the main attraction was/is the screen and its size+color quality!

Re: New Android beasts in town: which one for you?

Amazon's Fire Phone -- is anyone interested? Is is simply an Android phone with all the things we love about Android stripped out, as one blogger claims, or simply a shopping tool directly connecting Amazon with your bank account? Or does it actually have something to offer beyond a load of gimmicks that I personally doubt will work (if Samsung's gimmicks are any guide)?

It's a shopping tool customised to Amazon, with phone functionality... nothing more nothing less.

I believe the it is a simple tool to complete the Amazon "shopping" Eco system although I do not agree that "The Fire phone is Amazon's ultimate hardware weapon", but to be honest with a price of $649.99 (about CHF581, £382, AU$691) for the 32GB version and $749.99 (about CHF670, £441, AU$798) for the 64GB version! why would anyone go for this device as appose to the Nexus especially when putting it next to the others in a comparison list?

Re: New Android beasts in town: which one for you?

No thoughts or posts on the LG G3? Its Android Authority's 2014 phone of the year and appears to be outselling the Galaxy S5 on its home turf by a factor of 3 to 1.

Removable battery and SD card slot now included

Sure, people will continue to moan about the rear buttons but for those of us with the muscle memory from our LG G2s, its a very nice upgrade and looks a hell of a lot nicer than the Galaxy

Re: New Android beasts in town: which one for you?

I wonder has anyone here actually bought an LG G3? if yes what are your thoughts?

Looking at the specs it definitely out perform the Samsung S5 and price wise its a good CHF100 below event with the current promotion it is CHF30 below.

I have to admit, I really miss the 3GB ram on the S5.

Edit: all the reviews I read so far were made with the Korean version of the phone and almost all mention the battery issue (although its a bigger one then the S5) and how the drain is not-sustainable.

2GB RAM is plenty for any Android device for the next couple of years at least... 3GB doesn't bring any noticeable difference to devices in that class.

Agreed, but having to buy a flagship device and pay top $$$ for it, one would expect to get the best specs available and 3GB is available, indeed was implemented in the Samsung Note Pro Tabs and LG G3 to mention but a few.

Re: New Android beasts in town: which one for you?

As long as we are talking about "expected" great phones, we should add two more to our list:

1) OnePlus One
Display: 5.5 inch JDI with 1080p Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels), 401 PPI Resolution
CPU: Qualcomm© Snapdragon™ 801 processor with 2.5GHz Quad-core CPUs
GPU: Adreno 330, 578MHz
RAM: 3 GB LP-DDR3, 1866MHz
Storage: 16/64GB
battery: 3100mAh
Camera: Front: 13 Megapixel - Sony Exmor IMX 21, Back: 5 Megapixel
OS: CyanogenMod 11S based on Android 4.4 ( A great plus)
Plus the usual Wifi (ac), Bluetooth(4.0), NFC..etc

PRICE: $299 for 16GB and $349 for 64GB

and just look at those covers!

2) Oppo Find 7 an upgraded N1 (without the revolving camera):
The specifications are a dead ringer for the OnePlus one but for the battery at 3000mAh and the expandable Micro SD. One great advantage is the "rapid charging" ie a five minute charge will allow the Find 7 to support a two-hour call or 30 minute charge will get the Find 7 to 75% of battery.

PRICE: €479

Actually I disagree, putting RAM in for the sake of it is the kind of thing that manufacturers do to tempt gullible people into buying computer equipment. If it makes no difference, then it is simply not worth worrying about vs the other far more important specs.

A quick update on the MediaMarkt offer. In store, they are currently also selling the Samsung galaxy S5 Gold edition with a free S Charger Kit (worth CHF57 and includes: S charger pad; S charger Cover and USB to USB cable) all for the same price of CHF599.

Re: New Android beasts in town: which one for you?

I am super satisfied with my Z1, especially since it received the OTA 4.4.4 update

All teasing aside, genuinely interested in when will we finally see the Project ARA first phones sold to public? My intention was to skip the Z2 update and then hold off till I land an ARA phone, but from all rumors it seems it will be a while before this comes to a shelf near us, so the upgrade to Z3 this autumn may be imminent.

Does any of you folk have the OnePlus One by chance? First hand experiences anyone?
