The Experia Z3 Compact is a great choice.
Also you may want to wait for the new Nexus to be released.

PS. Let's create a new poll but only once the new Nexus is out.
Let's hit 1000 posts first so Jack of all trades jumps off a cliff for no reason.

Re: New Android beasts in town: which one for you?

Xperia Z3 here. With light usage easily two full days. Heavy usage easy full day and reach home late at night with over 30% battery. +amazing screen +amazing camera +the best sound I've got from my Klipsch S4 headphones.

I cannot recommend this phone enough!

Re: New Android beasts in town: which one for you?

Lollipop is truly the news for me this week. Question now is - how long before it hits the various non-Nexus devices?

Seems like the 5.9'' Nexus6 is almost but confirmed, a total no-go for me. The 5.2" is where I draw the line, contemplating on the xperia Z3 as refresh on my Z1... Or just hold till the Z4 is leaked and released March'15. The 6 month release cycle is kinda depressing. By the time they announce the new one and it is in stores, a new one is out.

They will say 90 days I imagine. I know oneplus are saying 90 days for the OPO which I thought was quite long considering it's Cyanogenmod.

just saw today that digitec is stocking the dual sim version of the M8.

a shame that the htc phones are so big and heavy. i'd like a dual sim version of the n5.

Re: New Android beasts in town: which one for you?

Well its official folks, the Nexus 6 is made by Motorola and is a super-sized (5.9" screen) version of Moto X.
Specs include Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, clocked at 2.7GHz, 3,220mAh battery, 5.9-inch Quad HD screen, 13-megapixel camera and dual-LED flash with either 32 or 64GB of internal memory but will be EXPENSIVE at $649 for the 32GB.

More detail here

ohh and before I forget, it will come with Android 5.0 AKA Lollipop

I wish the N6 was less overblown and cheaper as well, but they're repositioning the product. Now it makes sense why they sold Motorola, to give them the budget market. And to be fair, for a phablet-sized phone with crazy specs, the price isn't that outrageous.

Re: New Android beasts in town: which one for you?

Very disappointed regarding the price point of the nexus 6. Still cheap compared to the gayphones but the Nexus is supposed to be very reasonable priced.

Nobody wanted a 6'' screen on it. They just wanted a better camera and better battery life.

The new MOTO X isn't exactly budget either.

Re: New Android beasts in town: which one for you?

Come to think of it - this move is more or less expected in light of Oppo and One+, Huawei and others that invaded the low(er) cost Android value proposals. To have received an updated N5 and launch it in competition with these new entrants would have been tough. Now Android has a true flagship device (albeit 1 inch too big to my taste), one that can go against the Galaxy Note 4 king-of-phablets. Some early reports even point it to win...

Any report will make the Nexus 6 a win against the Note 4 in light of lack of TouchJizz

I'd rather have the Note 4, in spite of Touchwizz
  • S-Pen
  • Removable battery
  • Thinner and lighter than Nexus
  • Better quality camera

Allah gave me fingers to use on capacitive touch screens
Non-issue. I'd rather carry around a bettery pack or charger than a spare battery
Those 10g and 2mm make all the difference
Not seen comparisons but I'd take an iPhone 3GS camera over Touchwizz!

Saying that both are ridiculous. Anything over 5.5'' is silly for a phone. Even 5.5 is pushing it.

Fully agree, I think google will lose market share if they can't compete heavily on price.

Having said that it would not surprise me if they have something else in the pipeline (smaller, less specy and cheaper) and they are simply positioning different devices in the market to see the consumers reaction. an expensive experiment but google can definitely afford it.

I thought I used to understand Google's strategy when it came to Nexus devices i.e. to be a showcase for their software, catalyst for developers and generally lead with the expectation that their partners would follow.

Now it just seems to be typically Android, confused and messy. Are Google really saying that their partners are so crap that they have to continually show them how it should be done, and that overlays are inherently bad?

Really? I was literally on my way to M-Electronics to buy an S4 for the wife. They have it for 379.- plus 20 chuffs in gift coupons for every 100 CHF of purchase. But 279 francs would be a better deal. How reliable do you consider that rumour?
