LG G2 is 499 chuffs on pre-order at Digitec. And I assume it will only keep dropping, which is insane for such a monster of a phone.
Thats a damn good price, how cheap will the Nexus 5 be?

Yes, a monster of a phone completely crippled by 16GB of non-expandable memory. That's around 10GB of usable space.

That is shocking on a top-end phone in this day and age that is designed for HD content. So yeah, no wonder it's cheap.

I guess 10gb is fine for many potential buyers.

I would bet it isn't for the majority once they realise what the phone can actually do (13MP stills, high-quality HD video recording, amazing screen for watching HD movies etc).

16GB on a phone like this is a cynical marketing ploy and disregard for the consumer, nothing more, nothing less. Another 32GB would cost them maybe $3-$5 per device, tops.

At least you can forgive Samsung for their 16GB devices because they always include an SD slot.

That was an issue, but I ordered one of these things: https://shopmeenova.appspot.com/st/p/m3r.html . Solves storage issues for me.

It requires sitting down for a few minutes and transferring a few gigs of data to MicroSD to clear out space when required. I mean, it's not ideal, but a cheaper solution than paying 50 extra francs for a model with extra storage and less risky than keeping everything on your phone. I doubt that even with crazy multimedia usage you could arrive a point where you completely run out of space unexpectedly before you do some housecleaning and backing up. And with an internal MicroSD card, you lose your phone, you lose the backup.

There was a deal on buymobiles at 26/month over 24 months with a free phone.

Crazy for a flagship beast.

I don't know about the Nexus 5 (obviously, it hasn't released yet), but the Nexus 4 does not support USB OTG, so it's not compatible.
I have a Nexus 4 by the way, but I have a 32GB iPhone 5 also, so that solves some of my issues. I also regularly backup to my computer which backs up to multiple on site places and multiple off site places (such as CrashPlan, Dropbox etc), so my storage needs aren't great but I do have apps that do sometimes need a lot of space. Still, hopefully the Nexus 5 has 32GB minimum, or expandable via Micro SD.

That was one of my main issues with the phone, besides the average camera and lack of LTE.

I wouldn't count on MicroSD. The specs have been leaked. It's basically a watered down version of the LG G2, with a slightly smaller screen, worse camera, and much smaller battery. Stock Android is good, but since it's based on the exact same hardware, close-to-stock Roms should be available on the G2 before long. Unless one is completely mod-averse and the leaked specs are wrong, I see no point in getting a Nexus 5 over the G2, especially since the G2 is going for only 499 francs. You get much more phone for not much more money.

Re: New Android beasts in town: which one for you?

I had a play with the LG G2 today, and compared to my galaxy S4 I much prefer the LG. The screen is gorgeous and it feels right in the hand without that creakiness I get on my S4. The only fly in the ointment is the lack of SD card slot and with only 10GB of usable space it will be very tight data wise. At the same time I was feeling up the 5 and 5C and it hit me just how small and narrow the screen is.. I can't go back to that

Anyway I think I will trade the S4 for the LG and wait patiently for the iPhone 6

Good to hear, makes me more confident about getting the G2. I'll probably crack by November.

The best thing about the G2, the Sony Z1 and the Galaxy Note is definitely the new processor (they all share the same one). This thing finally makes Android and the apps work perfectly smoothly, like the iPhone and the various WP8 devices.

kind of interesting that LG have the G2 and are also producing the Nexus 5 seems that they are going to be competition with themselves??

Availability of the Nexus 5 is going to be limited to a few countries initially. It'll be available exclusively from the Google Play Store for a while. So they won't be selling that many. Also, Google will subsidize the device so they'll make the same profit on each N5 as they do on the G2.

Could also be that they'll only sell it in the US, just like the Google Play editions of the S4 and the HTC One, the Moto X etc. Importing them won't make sense as the US devices normally don't support all European LTE frequencies. Apart from that: Nexus devices are primarily bought by enthusiasts, they're not typically bestsellers.

The G2 doesn't seem to sell very well (prices already drastically reduced after only a few weeks on the market) - LG has a lousy reputation when it comes to updates. They've been following a fire-and-forget strategy for years now when it comes to their smartphones.

LG G2 Vs the new iPhone Vs a Windows Phone.
The best of each of the three worlds.
