What is the French equivalent of Freeview?

Hi All,
we need to buy a new TV, and since we're not subscribing to cable, we get our channels at the moment by having a TV with integrated freeview.

So, do any of you know what the equivalent of an integrated freeview box would be in French?

thanks in advance
Heather

It might be as helpful as you're going to get. I'm not sure that you'll find anything like that here.

Do digital TV's here need a set top box then in order to receive their local digital channels?

Is it not just the case, that if it's a digital TV, it can then be easily tuned in?

if you can link a PC to your TV then you could use:

Wilmaa - Das Schweizer Online TV - kostenlos als Live Stream ...

thanks but we have a shortage of computers in this house as it is, so don't want one hooked up to the TV. We want to keep our TV viewing to a minimum, so are just looking for a simple solution, and want something plug and go.

Many new TVs in France come with a digital tuner already built in. If not, you simply buy a digital tuner at the supermarket. Some channels are free, some are not.

Re: What is the French equivalent of Freeview?

First question might be; do you want french, swiss or english channels?

French tv is avaliable either through cable/internet or by satellite dish. For the first you'll need a box connected to your tv or computer and the cable or phoneline. The second uses a digibox connected between the tv and a dish on the roof There are at least two systems, Canalsat and TNT, local TV supplier should be able to tell you more.

If it's swiss channels I think they're only avaliable through cable now.

The most popular english channels are avaliable through a tv-top freeview box and dish (we bought ours from the local TV shop in Saint Julien, ~100€ + 50 for the dish and connection) tuned to Astra 28.2.

I'd suggest you simply ask in your local TV supply shop, they're usually pretty up-to-date with what is avaliable, especially if you want 'foreign' channels!
