HI All,
I am looking to move the cable socket from one side of the room to the other. (as the TV needs to be on another wall and there needs to be a cable socket next to it as I don't want to run a cable round the room)
Does anyone have a cable ferret devise I can borrow? Or does anyone want to pop round and do it? For a few beers at least! (Location Zurich, Walishofen)
There is a blanking plate currently covering the space where I want the new cable outlet to go (see attached pic). The gray plastic piping, visible in the pic, is similar to the one in the existing cable socket at the other side of the room. So there is a good chance its the same gray pipe! (i hope!!!! ;-0! )
I am hoping this gray pipe runs under the floor to the other socket. But I can't tell as there is a carpet glued down and I can't pull it up, it's newly fitted by the landlord.
The Post Office (pre-BT days) did use ferrets to pull cables through ducting in the good old days and I believe even had a ferret farm where they raised (and presumably trained) the animals.
Nowadays it's done mechanically, but the name has stuck.
I wouln't expect the two empty pipes to be connected, but they might meet up in the same room, near the main electrical distribution box in the cellar.
The cellar grey pipe ends might be covered over with a cable trunking. So you need two people: one to push and one to listen for any knocking & scraping noises.
So what's the best way to get the TV to the other side of the room?
Just lay a long cable round the corner of the room?
I am not interested in a WiFi TV sender / receiver and all the extra 'fuzz' that comes along with it. Especially with a new born in the house.
Pay an electrician... I doubt anyone is going to come round to your place and spend the time doing it for only a "few beers"... especially if there are any complications.
