I registered my first Swiss prepaid-card with my Belgian ID in a local shop. At that time I didn't have a Swiss address yet, and Belgian IDs don't mention the address on them (it's only saved on a chip).
I don't remember if they took down my foreign address or the address of the hotel where I stayed, but it was all very easy.
Summary: I doubt a Swiss address is needed under all circumstances.

| | Re: lyca mobile? | Quote: | | | | | I have a bigger problem when roaming with Lyca. All the mobile networks when I am outside Switzerland are marked as forbidden, I have experienced it three times already, once in Ukraine and two times in France. I called the customer service, and the operator basically told me to throw the SIM card away and order the new one. Luckily, it is not my primary number, and I can easily do it, but just curious, if anyone has experienced this problem and if you could do anything about it. | | | | | I did not experience this problem while in Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Ukraine and Belarus (where i've been in the last 6 months).
In all those countries, only in Ukraine that i did not receive the "Feels Like Home" SMS Service. But i did not use it as primary number anyway .

All other countries you mention are "Lycamobile" countries, and I always assmed it's limited to exactly "Lyacmobile countries - Tunisia"?

Anybody with Lycamobile facing or faced an issue when mobile data is enabled the smartphone just shut down without any kind of warning? It's just a black out and only way to solve it is to disable the mobile data.

It's just a black out and only way to solve it is to disable the mobile data. | | | | | I had to stop using Lyca because internet wouldn't work in most areas. Like, full 4G signal but no data transmission whatsoever.
Sometimes, only whatsapp/facebook but no web.
If I set airplane mode and back it would work for a couple of minutes then stall again.
Funny thing is, while roaming abroad (Spain and Netherlands) the internet connection was far better than here in CH
Anyone has experienced this? It's a pity because the price bundles with EU calls had an excellent price.

Doesnt matter if I have 4g and full signal, until I put it on airplane mode like you, it wont work again. The thought of even trying to contact their customer service makes me frustrated though

And what it should be done to have the Roaming working? I've tought that we didn't need to do nothing but last month I went for a week in Germany and couldn't make or receive a call for whole week |

Although I have free calls all over Europe. My phone is dual sim and the second sim is my work one which is Swisscom and it always works

For the roaming issues, it was mentioned here before, check sim tool kit, click lycamobile, then choose manual, from there you can choose from the list of countries available or else choose roaming. The list of countries will be based on countries you've already visited so will be different for everybody.

For the internet roaming to work when abroad you have to set the APN (Access Point Name) on your mobile phone for each country you visit: the settings are simple and video+guide can be found on this page. On Android, here are the settings:
Tap Applications
Tap Settings (located on the second page)
Tap Wireless and network
Tap Mobile networks
Tap Access Point Names
Press the Menu key
Tap New APN: data.lycamobile.ch
Tap Name then tap the text box and enter lycamobile then tap OK
Tap APN then tap the text box and enter data.lycamobile.ch
Tap Username then tap the text box and enter lmch then tap OK
Tap Password then tap the text box and enter password: plus then tap OK
Highlight APN type and tap
Tap APN type then tap internet (so a green dot appears next to it)
Press the Back key five times to return to the standby screen
The internet speed when roaming is 3G only
Dont forget there is now a 1GB data roaming package for Europe at 12CHF
Good luck

Thank you to the user who suggested setting the mobile data to only 3g and not 4g as it has completely solved my issue. The mobile data hasnt stopped once in 2weeks now, no more switching to airplane mode and back!

I went last weekend to Germany and follow your instructions and finally got it working. Still expecting this to be an automatic thing but better than nothing.
About the 3G, I didn't try it. I've bought a 4G mobile phone and paid for 4G data and have it working only with 3G isn't an option for me.

We bought a Lyca card in Spain, which had 1 GB of data locally for 6EUR, that I used in a hotspot in a camper. The Swiss Lyca prices are almost double at 12CHF/GB.
Does anyone know if I can keep topping up the Spanish card and if roaming data in the EU will work like this or is it locked then to Spanish local data?
I can't figure this out scrolling thru the Spanish (or Swiss) website, I couldn't find an EU roaming option for EU SIMs and I can't seem to able to get to an agent over the phone... |
