Yeah the form on the website doesn't accept any birth date.
Give customer service a call, they are very helpful when they understand what one wants!

if one does not succeed on the first attempt, hang-up and call again to get another person from the CS team!

Anyone got any idea of a place to register the lyca sim in lausanne?
I've tried 3 different shops from their partner list. 1 said his shop didn't do that. 2 didn't have a clue what I even wanted.
Sorry, can you please clarify what do you mean by "register"? the explanation might lead to some one being able to help you better.

I mean registering the sim.
They send you it but it doesn't work until they activate it. Have to fill in a form and photocopy some ID.

Ok, understood, this form filled and the ID can be scanned and emailed to Lyca here is the page with the contact details!

The other option is to fill-in the online registration and use the online account to activate your sim.

if you need the forms, you can find them here along side a fax number to send the form (if you wish).

Thanks. Any idea how I find my phone number though?
Can't see it on anything they sent, the sim just has an ID number

if you actually put the simcard into a phone, you will get a txt with your number. If however this does not happen, you can find it out by simply putting the following code (*132#) into the phone and pressing the dial/call button. more detail under "Where can I find my Lycamobile number?" the FAQ page.

if the phone is locked, it is locked to the provider you bought the phone from and you need to get the providers imsi the one from whole you bought the phone.

in any case and if your phone is locked, how were you planning to use the lyca simcard?

whatever the case is, your first step needs to be either unlock your phone or get an unlocked phone and use it with the sim.

My phone can't be unlocked- really evil foreign provider I had when I lived elsewhere who refuse to unlock. There are ways to work around locks though (I have an R-SIM), however you need the IMSI number of the provider to do that.
I didn't realise lyca's IMSI would be so tough to find tbh,

ok, understood, well here is how to find your IMSI number for your simcard!

the first five numbers you already had 22854, you will need 10 more digits

the first two of those are 00, now for the last 8 digits you will need to look at the back of your sim in which you have two rows of numbers an upper set (starting with 8) and a lower set (starting with 0). what you need to do is to take the first eight digits of the second row ie it will be 0XXXXXXX (ignore the last digit in the lower set) with those your IMSI will be 22854 00 0XXXXXXX.

let me know if this is not clear!

Edit: I just had a look at a video explaining how to use r-sim and the gentleman is clearly started that in the menu one need to select the carrier to which the phone is locked on. So again, when are using the r-sim app you need to select the provider from whom you get the phone!

Re: lyca mobile?

JUST PANTS....

So I thought I would order a sim card from LYCA ok got it. Filled out
the paperwork and added my ID, faxed it to them, number constantly
busy for the last 9 days. Faxed successfully 3x and they claim not received it.

I finally emailed cs@lycamobile.ch and guess what .. .

THEIR MAILBOX IS FULL... WTF?

---error message

cs@lycamobile.ch
The recipient's mailbox is full and can't accept messages now. Please try resending this message later, or contact the recipient directly.

I can't believe it, what a total bunch of muppets. I am just trying to register a sim card with them, so to recap:

1) their fax number frequently busy
2) faxed registrations being lost or not received
3) their email address is totally non functional for days now.

GREAT COMPANY... FU Lycamobile..

They only have 1 email inbox for the entire country of Switzerland ? Really?

I give up...

Re: lyca mobile?

Well.. A loong time I got the mailbox full message and it took me about 8 seconds to notice the other email address on their paperwork .. (which the SIM came with) kkiosk"@"lycamobile.ch sent it off, successful response hours later and have been a happy customer since.

Lyca is really only good value if you don't need hand holding. For people who are self sufficient and can help themselves it's great.. Their prices are cheap and coverage good because they don't spend time and effort helping people to do simple things like finding their own number or reading a form.

PS - They have an old fashioned voice number where you may talk to a real person in the language of your choice.

PPS - Do people actually still have fax machines?

At least inside Germany, a fax can have legal advantages opposed to email. I guess it's the same in Switzerland, not sure?

Since we retired our "real" fax years ago, I use www.abacusfax.de to send faxes, and I have a (free) VoiP number with www.netvoip.ch, which I configured as a fax in a >>Fritz!Box 7390<<.

When someone sends me a fax I receive it as a .pdf in my email (completely free in above combination). Sending faxes via abacusfax (ancient website, I know) only costs per page when I send one, which is rare. This also works as .pdf from email.

I don't promote using fax, but the flexibility to be able to do so is great.

You won't believe how many people first laugh at me when I mention this, and then half-a-year later come to ask me if they could "as a once off" receive a fax through my number because it's "urgent"

Re: lyca mobile?

Continuing the Lyca confusion. I've been contemplating switching but I can't see the following makes sense:

National 19
300 minutes
300 texts
500Mb date
CHF19.00
http://www.lycamobile.ch/en/bundle

EU 19
Then http://www.lycamobile.ch/en/bundle?id=4
shows the same deal at the same price of CHF 19 - but then the following countries are included in the 300 minutes:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.

The only difference I can see is no rollover on EU 19. Why would I take the National 19??

One does not, unless one does not make international calls and one also does not have any one else in the family/friends/business..etc with a lyca mobile sim.

You see the only advantage that the national 19 over the EU19 is the extra 300min to other Lyca mobile subscribers/sim card holders. National actually has 300 min to Swiss numbers and another 300min to lyca mobile numbers.

The more confusing one is the EU 39 and the national 39 and pretty much all subsequent tariffs, now those have no difference except EU has unlimited calls to all of EU listed countries.

Also note the rollover option is a choice that you can make on either contracts and is done online something you can change and cancel at anytime prior to the rollover date.

...if it works! I tried to cancel the auto-renewal of a data bundle I had and every time I got a "We're experiencing technical problems" error. Eventually I had to do it over the phone.

Re: lyca mobile?

is anyone else having issues with lyca, im not able to receive calls sometimes it doesn't connect through and the person trying to call simply hears a dead tone, this seems to be happening more often now, at first i thought it was my phone but having switched the SIM to other phones the problem still occurs.

It has the best field in Lausanne and surrounding vilages. It's using Salt's network (formerly orange). Maybe the problems you are experiencing are somehow related to this rebranding?

Lycamobile actually uses Swisscom network not Orange/Salt.
