Lycamobile actually uses Swisscom network not Orange/Salt.
Right, I was mistaken. I'm currently trying to activate my new sim cards but so far I failed because:

1. Main lycamobile partner in my area has shutdown its shop recently
2. Second partner is closed because of illness
3. Third partner was nowhere to be found although the store locator indicated its presence.
4. Shop assistant from Mobilezone told me to go to Interdiscount because they do not activate lyca.
5. Shop assistant at ID told me to go to kiosk because they don't activate lyca
6. Shop assistant in the kiosk didn't know how to activate lyca because nobody told them how to do it. She called her boss and at the end lied that it will be activated on Monday (but has not taken the forms nor the ID copy...)

Not a good start....Will try other partners on Monday...

Will do Photo with the cellphone should be sufficient.

ps. I wanted, for once, to follow the rules (that's what was written on the form: go to the partner and have it sent through them) but again it proved to be a wrong idea :P

If you did not pay anything for the Sim you got from Lyca then just trash it and buy a new one from interdiscount where they will activate it on the spot. Make sure you have your ID/Residency/Passport with you when you buy the sim as they will need to enter your data into the system.

Note: Interdiscount actually has at times offers where you pay 10CHF for the simcard which already has a 20CHF balance.

Activated through email. Thanks for help!

ps. Do you think that they will start the number transfer process if I have e-mailed them copy of paper forms? Or should I mail the paper version to their Swiss HQ?

Yes, the electronic copy should be enough. just follow up with a phone call if you still have an issue using the simcard and an sms with your number does not arrive to your sim/mobile.

No, the card works fine. I got 2CHF of welcome credit and can make calls alright. I only want to bring my sunrise number to Lyca at the end of the month (end of the Freedom contract with Sunrise).

ok, it is simple, you need to fill in the phone transfer form and send it over to lyca, again I would call them after 2 weeks of sending the form to make sure they received it.

Also make sure you call sunrise ASAP (if you have not already) and inform them that you do not want to continue with your contract. What I did was ask them to change the number from contract to a pay as you go at the end of the contract and requested a written confirmation (email/sms) with the expected date of change of this as sunrise sometimes losses all records of such requests .

if you have already informed sunrise and have sent the form to lyca, you will soon (2-4 weeks) get a text on your sunrise number asking you if you want to move your number, you need to reply to that with a yes.

The process does take time so be patient. Also remember you will get 10CHF for the first 3 months of your contract (30CHF in total). You will have to chase lyca to get those added to your number (they tend to forget ) but if you do chase it then you will get it.

Re: lyca mobile?

The Switzerland+Europe flat rate SMS sent but not registered. Called customer service and they fixed it. Next month same problem.
The flat rate was at 39,- per month; now on their website it is 49,- but still they accepted 39. It's a mess.

Re: lyca mobile?

For those who do not want to have a bundels added to their number, I would suggest you use the simple tariff option.

All that it does is discounting the calls/sms rate for National by eliminating the 29rb/call connection fee and for International calls by the appropriate discout eg UK landline 1rb/min instead of 5rb/min.

For the discount on the national rate send a text with the word SIMPLE to 2525 "Promo International Rates (text SAVE to 2525 to get our cheapest rates)"

For Discount on international rate send a text with the word SAVE to 2525 "Customers should opt-in by texting SIMPLE to 2525 to get the above special rates"

Enjoy

Re: lyca mobile?

So I thought I'd give Lycamobile a whirl for a month. I live in a particularly poor reception area for Salt/Orange and Sunrise and many neighbours use Swisscom because of this.

Lyca's website is quirky. I could not get the registration form to work on my iMac with either Chrome or Firebird. Eventually it worked on my iPad.

I got the free sim within 5 days and, although their website states the number is on the back of the sim pack, it wasn't.

I emailed a scan of my passport and their Registration form to kkiosk"@"lycamobile.ch (without the "). I received a mailbox full warning by return. But it seems that email address is picked up by 3 other email boxes that aren't full.

The reply came that "we found that PUK no (xxxxxxx) & ICCID doesn’t match". I responded that this was a scan of their own form with the figures printed on it by them.

Their response was to refer me to a customer service email address. They did nopt respond at all. So 24 hours later I emailed the kkiosk@ address again. They responded "The Puk code number is already registered. For reference Puk code no. is xxxxx" ie. the information already printed on their Registration Form. I presume "the code is already registered" means they have now done it.

They had. I was able to open a myLyca account and buy a month of EU19. This works well and the Swisscom signal is strong. I was able to make a 7 minute call from my car (bluetooth) to the UK without problem.

Entry to myLyca remains problematic and the 'log in' button often does not work.

A great service at a great price, marred by a confusing and poorly functioning website. But, you pays your money...

Re: lyca mobile?

Just FYI .. I've just been in the UK with my LycaMobile..

On arrival I got an SMS from O2-UK allocating me a UK number and allowing 3g data at pretty much no cost (no roaming) plus local rate calling..

This is not a service i bought, the only thing i buy is a data bundle each month.. So pretty good service i think.

Re: lyca mobile?

I'm looking to replace the Lebara UK SIM, in my second slot, primarily as a dedicated data option, as my primary CH SIM, is fine with Aldi, and I don't need to mess around porting numbers.
I presently use Aldi PAYG data at 9,90 for 500MB, which I never use up, anyway - but I don't stream with this relatively low limit, and for other interweb stuff it's OK .... and in the last couple of months they've inadvertently carried over unused data to the next month (which is contrary to their T&C's).

I've also been using Swisscom TV Air on my iPad, at 9,00 pcm, but recently have been relying on my phone more and more, with the iPad seldom making it out of wifi range ..... and Swisscom TV app on iPad has become more unreliable with channel availability and programmes showing as not available when selected - so I'm going to bin TV Air and may want to stream a bit more on my phone, hence looking for a cheaper data option.
The TV Air app. only seems to work with Swisscom SIM cards (iPad), as when I use my log in on the same app. on my phone, it sucks on my data allowance instead of not touching it.
The only other option is to take the SIM from my iPad and put in the phone - but that's 19,00 for 500MB pcm - so hardly cheaper and possibly problematic - although it would use data that I'm currently paying for, but not using.

So far, Lyca seems to be the best for data, but reading some of the posts on this thread - either completely satisfied or completely frustrated, with no happy medium - I am still undecided, if it's worth the (apparent) hassle ...... but as initially, it ain't going to cost me owt, I'll probably get round to giving it whirl.

Re: lyca mobile?

I'm in the camp that likes Lyca ..

I guess as a second data only SIM you don't care about porting the number etc.. So it's an almost no cost trial for you, order a free SIM online, register it and off you go with 2.- included credit. Ok that won't get you far but you can then buy a 1gb data bundle for 5.90 valid for 30 days.. It won't roll over but you can auto renew it.

The registration seems to be the thing tripping people up, scan your docs and send it to all of the email addresses listed.. Call them up if any problem.

For me it just works and the price of data is a no brainer.. I topped up 100.- many months ago, they gave me 120.- free and I've still got 130.- balance. That's me using at least 5gb data per month, calling locally and calling the UK. Plus they seem not to be even charging silly money for data roaming now. When i cross into FR I get a message saying "welcome to your FEEL LIKE HOME SERVICE...etc etc " .. I get 3g data even though data roaming is disabled and it does not come off my allowance.

Re: lyca mobile?

Just as an aside, I had to laugh when I returned from my last trip back to Blighty, after landing at GVA, how UK networks view European roaming, when it comes to CH.
Still on the plane I took my phone off flight mode and instantly received the following text:
Quote:
Welcome to FRANCE, calls to UK/EU are 16p/min (4p/min to receive). Texts 5p (free to receive). Data 17p/MB. Info:+441xxxxxx701 free. Emergency services 112
As soon as I progressed into the terminal and the network realised it's geographical error, I then received the updated version:

Quote:
Welcome to SWITZERLAND, with Lebara Mobile calls are up to £3.49p/min to make (up to £1.49p/min to receive). Texts are 49p to send (Free to receive). Data £14.99p/MB. Call +441xxxxxx701 free for more info

What a difference a few metres make.
