| | Re: lyca mobile? | Quote: | | | | | So I thought I'd give Lycamobile a whirl for a month. I live in a particularly poor reception area for Salt/Orange and Sunrise and many neighbours use Swisscom because of this.
Lyca's website is quirky. I could not get the registration form to work on my iMac with either Chrome or Firebird. Eventually it worked on my iPad.
I got the free sim within 5 days and, although their website states the number is on the back of the sim pack, it wasn't.
I emailed a scan of my passport and their Registration form to kkiosk"@"lycamobile.ch (without the "). I received a mailbox full warning by return. But it seems that email address is picked up by 3 other email boxes that aren't full.
The reply came that "we found that PUK no (xxxxxxx) & ICCID doesn’t match". I responded that this was a scan of their own form with the figures printed on it by them.
Their response was to refer me to a customer service email address. They did nopt respond at all. So 24 hours later I emailed the kkiosk@ address again. They responded "The Puk code number is already registered. For reference Puk code no. is xxxxx" ie. the information already printed on their Registration Form. I presume "the code is already registered" means they have now done it.
They had. I was able to open a myLyca account and buy a month of EU19. This works well and the Swisscom signal is strong. I was able to make a 7 minute call from my car (bluetooth) to the UK without problem.
Entry to myLyca remains problematic and the 'log in' button often does not work.
A great service at a great price, marred by a confusing and poorly functioning website. But, you pays your money... | | | | | I agree the website can be troublesome at times, but I have gotten used to looking at almost all aspects of the account using lyca's short USSD codes. Eg dial *131# (then press dial) to check CHF credit, *136# to see min/MB/SMS credit left. I have saved them all under my contacts for fast dial and information request. Some more Codes are here.

| | Re: lyca mobile? | Quote: | | | | | I'm in the camp that likes Lyca ..
I guess as a second data only SIM you don't care about porting the number etc.. So it's an almost no cost trial for you, order a free SIM online, register it and off you go with 2.- included credit. Ok that won't get you far but you can then buy a 1gb data bundle for 5.90 valid for 30 days.. It won't roll over but you can auto renew it.
The registration seems to be the thing tripping people up, scan your docs and send it to all of the email addresses listed.. Call them up if any problem.
For me it just works and the price of data is a no brainer.. I topped up 100.- many months ago, they gave me 120.- free and I've still got 130.- balance. That's me using at least 5gb data per month, calling locally and calling the UK. Plus they seem not to be even charging silly money for data roaming now. When i cross into FR I get a message saying "welcome to your FEEL LIKE HOME SERVICE...etc etc " .. I get 3g data even though data roaming is disabled and it does not come off my allowance. | | | | | One thing to note with the "feel at home" service (this is the no roaming on plans like talk and text 12, eu 19 etc). They are only valid for 59 days. Found out this summer when I went to Germany - was wondering why I didn't get the auto sms that you mentioned ( I was hoping to use the service to my trip stateside). But, this last time I went to Germany, I made sure I subscribed to a new rate (eu 19, before I had the talk and text) - and it worked. i wonder, if after 59 days on this if I return to talk & text if the "no roaming" will still work.
Anyone else have experience with this? I agree, sometimes I am learning the "hard way" how to work things, but as I have my daughter's and my phone on LYCA, I think it is worth the growing pains... | Quote: | | | | | yes, the website has some problems and the *136 has problems too...

All the mobile networks when I am outside Switzerland are marked as forbidden, I have experienced it three times already, once in Ukraine and two times in France. I called the customer service, and the operator basically told me to throw the SIM card away and order the new one. Luckily, it is not my primary number, and I can easily do it, but just curious, if anyone has experienced this problem and if you could do anything about it.

I had a Lyca mobile sim-card, used it to call overseas, but it turned out to be more expensive, eventually I changed to MUCHO mobile. if you want to call Swiss number you may be better off with Aldi.

Where, in the USA? Does it work over there at all?

I can confirm it was fixed as it was working for me when I was in Frankfurt about a month ago.

| | Re: lyca mobile?
I need a Swiss number to receive calls, also internationally (when roaming), only.
Does anyone know what has to be done to activate "feel like home" when abroad?
I just got myself a Swiss Lyca-SIM for testing.
Logged myself into the German network, without ever having recharged, and "feel like home" was activated. I can receive calls on the Swiss Lyca-number without paying anything.
Does this always work, or is there a catch in the long run?
I guess I'd have to occasinoally recharge to keep the card active, but is there any other catch?

Last time checked the feel like home service was available only if you had a plan , such as the EU19 or EU 39 but that may have changed (since you got it activated without a plan). | Quote: | | | | | I need a Swiss number to receive calls, also internationally (when roaming), only.

IDK if it changes anything.

You should get a local number which can be used for people calling you in that country, while your Swiss number works too. The number comes after some hours abroad.
This with a Package - mine is EU19. No idea if this works without.
The only catch is the whole set up is a bit odd! I get texts from them from time to time for offers worse than the one I'm already on. They sent me a PIN number today after 6 months with them, I've no idea what for! They gave me CHF15 bonus on a CHF50 top up and said it was 10%...

Thanks for all the posts here, today I popped out to Interdiscount and got myself a SIM and registered.
Bear in mind, although the Lycamobile website itself recognises Swiss Driving licenses as ID, the Interdiscount staff insisted on an Auslanderausweis/Passport/IDCard.
One thing isn't clear to me from all the posts: upon sending the number portability/transfer form with the ID copy, on which number is one supposed to reply with YES to 499, the old number to be ported or the new Lycamobile number?
(ie do I need to keep both numbers going until transfer?)
Sincere thanks, MF

Sincere thanks, MF | | | | | There was a major outage today which led to no connections for a few hours. Lycamobile's French offices have been raided for financial irregularities and money laundering allegations. So, take care.
Porting - You will get a SMS on your old number and you should reply YES to it from the old number. Your old number will keep going till transfer at which point the Lyca sim will get your old number. It sometimes takes a few hours for this transfer to happen during which time you might not have access to your old number.
