lyca mobile?

Hi

Is a good carrier? Which network do they use?

Is it really free calling to lyca in other countries in Europe? It looks crazy that they offer that.
http://www.lycamobile.ch/en/Unlimited-Texts-

And then free internet with every CHF 5 charge?

http://www.lycamobile.ch/

What I don't understand is how to get the sim card. Do I go directly to interdiscount and say that I want a sim card?
Everytime that I have to ask something in interdiscount the guy tells me that they don't have anything to do with the things in internet........

Thanks

Re: lyca mobile?

Apparently, that's a new batch of offers as previously there were other conditions.

I topup once a year so can't comment on bonuses after regular topups. I did get an extra CHF130 on my CHF100 last time.

They use Swisscom. Internet is working but not very well. For the price (6pr/MB), however, it's acceptable.

They used to have a Free SIM offer on their site but I can't locate it now. I got mine in a small Iranian shop, I'm sure you can spot their logo in many others in or around Zurich.

One good thing with Lyca is that they have operations in many countries and offer heavily discounted rates for intra-network calls between those countries. For example, calling Swiss Lyca from their Irish or French network is just 1c/min.

Re: lyca mobile?

They have the sim cards at most post and kiosk shops but I guess you can find a store using this online tool: http://www.lycamobile.ch/en/storelocator

Over all, the offers are very good ones, especially the unlimited data. The issue I found is that all the offers are valid only until 30/11/2013. So my question is what happens after that? ie if I topup in January 2014 will I still get the unlimited data? somehow I do not think so ...

Remember .. Even pre pay sims require ID.. Permit/passport/ID card.

I went with Lebara which uses Sunrise network.. I paid 50chf and somehow got 90chf credit. I'm not a heavy user but still have 78 left after nearly two months.

Which card would the best beween coop mobile or lyca mobile?

Re: lyca mobile?

Swiss Lycas are identified as Vodafone NL (+31 ...), that's true, but I don't think that would prevent them from receiving any SMS sent directly to the assigned Swiss number. I don't use it for SMS verifications but it certainly receives generic SMS messages without a glitch.

In fact, Coop and Lyca are my two main operators in Switzerland. Coop for intra-network calls (unconditionally free for Coop and Orange) and Lyca for all the others, including abroad. Abroad, I mean, calling abroad, for roaming any Swiss operator is useless so I stick to either Irish or local SIMs.

Thanks! That's what exactly what I am planning to do, because I have to call abroad too.

been using lyca for the last two years. have not seen any operator provide a better offer for calling abroad or internet packages.

their offers keep changing but are still better than the rest.

I called the customer service last month, a guy told me that the unlimited data for any topup is misplaced. However, it is still there.

I just went with Lyca and have no complaints so far. I did a 5chf top up and got the data - it is 3GB and you get a message to let you know when you have nearly used it. Customer services are really helpful too.

I just switched from swisscom to lycamobile on a pair of data-only Sims I use in a pad and laptop. Was costing me 40 CHFs per month for 2x 500 mb, now costing 12 CHFs for 2x3 GB (although it's free this month!).

As far as I can tell so far the service is identical to swisscom during my commute across Zurich. No problems with reception or congestion.

Did you try www.togglemobile.co.uk ?

It´s a Lyca-brand. You can add several numbers (9 out of 13 countries, including Switzerland) to one-and-the-same SIM, incoming calls are free in many countries, no matter which # you´re called on.

So someone could call your Irish or UK number, you receive the call in Switzerland - free. Or you´re in Ireland or the UK, someone calls on your Swiss#, you receive the call free.

Drawback is that I find Lyca very unreliable in general. Constantly and unpredictably changing terms and charges. I wouldn´t use this as my main #. But diverting my usual sunrise24.ch to toggle, and then travelling, enables me to receive calls free of charge in many countries.

It´s worth a look.

How does that work? Are all the different numbers active at the same time?

Yes - incredibly they are.

The card automatically comes with a UK#, which will always remain active. Other local numbers are free of charge for up to a month. If you want to keep a local number permanently, it´s £ 5/year.

Catch#1:
The UK# is a Lyca#, which are (strangely) sometimes more expensive to call than "normal" UK mobile #s. If you need a UK#, I recommend porting a "normal" UK# to the Togglecard. I did that successfully :)

Catch#2:
Lyca/Toggle doesn´t allow to activate any call diverts. So if you travel to a country which Toggle doesn´t support, you´re in a pretty dire situation. (There are workarounds, but they´re pretty complicated)

Catch#3:
Outside of the UK Data is pretty expensive.

Because of all the catches I don´t use it as my main#, but it still opens many opportunities. :)

I just had my Lycamobile activated and then configured Whatsapp (I've an Android Smartphone. While I can send messages on whatsapp, I can't receive any. Most likely I'll do with another SIM for Whatsapp.

I don't understand what you mean by this? Do you mean you have a Swiss number (+41...), but then the call is forwarded to a Dutch number (+31...)?

I don't have any issues with using SMS verification or WhatsApp or anything on Lyca. Not sure what these lot are going on about. My number is a Swiss +41 one.

I don't have any of these Lyca issues.. I use whattsap daily, mobile banking and various things that send me messages.

My number was ported from Lebara, new Lyca SIM, used the new number until ported.. No issues with any of it.

Mee too... I just ported from Orange few days ago.
Everything works fine at the moment.
Apart from that Roaming icon that appear on most smartphones.

To activate the data service, i need to enable "Data Connection while Roaming" option. This will be a problem when the phone picks up foreign carrier signal (real roaming).
I just set the carrier to manual for now...

Re: lyca mobile?

i have lyca mobile since 1 month
i use it in a dual sim phone, i have a sim card with coop for calls
lyca uses swisscom (good for coverage) and i am quite happy, even with the speed, i reached once 16 Mbs, and LTE signal is allowed. i have 2 GB per month, in theory 11.90 chf, but since topping 10 chf gives 2 chf bonus, in the end it costs just 10 per month.
and top up expires after 90 days, that means you have to recharge monthly, but i find this fair with the good tarifs.
i wonder how they get from swisscom so low prices. coop for example wants 25 chf for 1.5 GB
it's also possible to see online how many bytes you still have available

ha did not realise that top-up expires with lyca, just looked at their T&Cs and indeed:"4.6 From 5 August 2014 any new top up credit shall expire ninety [90] days from the date of top-up or recharge. For the avoidance of doubt, this does not apply to the existing credit balance in your Account before 5 August 2014."

So that is the sting in their what I previously thought was a great offer of getting an extra CHF250 when you topup CHF200.

So basically the CHF450 can't be used beyond 90 days!

exactly
but as i said i think it's fair
they have the lowest data tarifs in switzerland, even without this bonus
for comparison, lebara makes the same offer but their data costs are much higher
it just requires some planning :) they have to live and survive too

i think that if one needs 10 gb per month the ideal thing is to recharge 100 chf, one gets 220. 135 goes for internet and rest can be used to call basically for free
i am personally fine with 2 gb per month so i recharge just 10 every month

the only critics i have to make, is that dialing *136# to know how much data is left you get often a wrong indication
but one can check online and there it's right

One critic i have is that there is no warning that the data bundle is about to run out.. I'm a big data user and my bundle ran out, no warning, everything continued to work but took a huge chunk of balance. But hey ho, it was the bonus money anyway.. and would have run out i guess.

I'm not sure exactly by the way, but think i've been using for more than 90 days and my balance is still ok.. so we'll see.

No warning?
I received 3 Text messages from Lyca asking me to make sure that i have sufficient credit for the next extention of my tariff package.
There is also information to terminate the package if i dont want to extend it.
*190# is for the cancellation.

Hmmm.. i shouldn't bought that many credit if its going to expires within 3 months :(. Oh my... :msnsad:

It's a different warning .. Yes I get a warning that it's almost 30 days, time to renew the package .. BUT if i finish the package after only 20 days there's no warning, it just starts to charge me xxx per kb or mb.

and can't you use the 10 gb package? isn't it enough? :D
in that case you could use the 100+120 chf and you have
220-135=85 chf
0.10 chf per mb
= 850 MB addiitonal
ok not much...

then with 200+250 we have
450-135= 315 chf
= 3.15 GB additional
