New digital channels upc-cablecom

I have been trying to update my tv digital channel list today but without much success. performing fast scans resulted in about 50 digital channels most of which locked and most of previous analogue channels like mtv and some other did not display at all. now I am performing a full scan which is taking a while but until now (33%) has found 362 digital channels. I don't know where this is going but I hope I get some English speaking channels. in my previous scans there were a lot of British channels but none of them free. I red at the upc-Cablecom site that some channels might take about half an hour to open so we'll see. anyone making progress (or actually trying )?

Re: New digital channels upc-cablecom

What are you using - a Mediabox or a CI+ card?

With a card you have to key in the parameters as per Cc.'s web instructions.

You'll need to subscribe to get any non-news english channels worth watching. They finally added ITV3 & 4, More4 & E4 today, plus a bunch of French channels so we're at the same level as the Swisscom offer now. Hurrah!

Re: New digital channels upc-cablecom

Hi,

why on earth were you expecting english channels in the free offering ? It is targeted at the most popular channels on Cablecom.

I suppose you looked at this list: http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/content/d...dcable-dch.pdf

as you can see there is only 1 English channel CNN. However, the Digital offerings from Cablecom are not so expensive. If you get the classic package it would give you BBC1, 2, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.

There was no way they would have been included them in the free offering.

Have fun

Martin

Re: New digital channels upc-cablecom

I think this link only shows the old Analogue TV list of channels http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/content/d...dcable-dch.pdf

For digital TV you need to hire or buy a Cablecom Digicard CI+ or a Digibox or a Horizon box which can record.

Once you are signed up to digital you can receive these channels,

http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/de/fernsehen/sender/ (Select your region, and then decide on which package to buy)

Re: New digital channels upc-cablecom

How long did the update take for people? It crashed my Horizon box, so I unplugged as suggested on the CC site. Now I've been staring at Please Wait for about 40 minutes.

There's nothing new that I'm even bothered about. ITV is gash. Why do I need Simon Cowell in HD?

Re: New digital channels upc-cablecom

The update only seemed to be partial on my Cisco box (none of the additional UK channels were there but BBC ones had gone HD) so I did the reset to factory settings... and now I'm back to the "InIt" message of doom. Wonder how long it'll take cablecom to get me a new box .

I think it would be worth their while including something like Dave in the free offering. It might entice more people to subscribe to the for-pay English channels, because it gives them a taste, but nothing is up to date.

These are digital channels that are unencrypted. Analogue is still there as well but is reduced gradually to free up space for other channels.

If you have a cablecom connection but no subscription for digital tv but have a tv with dvb-c tuner you can pick them up without a digicard. That said for any reasonable amount of english channels you need either the digicard or a cablecom box with a subscription.

You'll find however that with digital TV many of your channels are multi-lingual.

So set your TV to use preferred language = English, and you'll suddenly find that many programs and films magically appear in English

Just because the Swiss channel SRF1 says it is a German channel, doesn't mean that you cannot have English....

And you'll have at least one fulltime English channel (CNN), maybe 2 (EuroNews, which btw broadcasts in I think 11 languages simultaeneously...!!)

Re: New digital channels upc-cablecom

We are in Wnterthur. We have UPC as a cable provider.

We are embarrassed and are certain we are idiots but CNN disappeared on the 15th of October - after that "ribbon" of info ran under all the programs for so long regarding digital whatever.

AND... many other programs- like "Old Christine" and "Hawaii 5-0" have now changed to Italian and others have changed to German as well as movies- featured before in a choice of English -we cannot now switch to English anymore in the duel language mode.

PLEASE ADVISE if you'd be so kind. I NEED English.
I am very new here from America and need my fix.

There are so few channels left now and though I laugh and make
fun of CNN's programming- I miss it dreadfully now that it is gone.

Bytheway, we have a rather older Samsung flatscreen and bought a "One for All" brand of remote in May of this year when a friend gave us this TV

Thanks to you all and we look forward to your reply.

Please email us, if you will, privately too.
I am still getting used to this site.

Cheers!
ASL

Sounds like you were watching old-fashioned steam-powered analog TV.
UPC cablecom removed some analog TV channels recently, CNN was one of them

Do you have a digital flatscreen TV?
If so, it will work with the digital channels (of which many are multi-lingual).
Just do a new channel scan.

I also live in WInterthur so if you are really stuck.... I could pop over and tune the TV for you.

Re: New digital channels upc-cablecom

Has anyone had problems with certain channels recently? Specifically BBC3, BBC4, ITV3, ITV4, E4 and More4?
They were all in our favourites list, and now they are just black screens.

upc did some channel renumbering last week

Some TVs automatically adjust themselves to the new channel numbering
Some do not - all depends on the capabilities of the TV

Sounds like your TV did not adjust itself.
So you have to go and save your favourites again.

Re: New digital channels upc-cablecom

Tried that. No luck.
None of those channels even pop up when I try and get them from the guide either. There are two ITV4s, for example, and both are just black screens.
Same with the other channels I mentioned.
Ah well. Another reason to dump Cablecom.

Wouldn't the core issue of "don't know how to tune TV" remain regardless of who the provider is?

You would be advised to completely wipe the stored channel list in your TV by doing a factory reset and then a new scan

Remember: every TV behaves differently. If you don't like the way your TV behaves, send your grumpygram to the TV manufacturer, not the cable service provider!

Re: New digital channels upc-cablecom

UPC has again renumbered their channels and after scanning (channel search), we don't have the Swiss channels (SRFs, French, Italian) or the normal German channels...but alleluia, we have the bible freaking channel.
