UPC Sealing a cable connection (plombierung)

Does anyone here have any experience of cablecom sealing a cable connection?

What does it involve? Is it a digital sealing? Or do they send a guy round who dollops red wax onto the connector, or what? I can't quite figure out what this involves...

Re: UPC Sealing a cable connection (plombierung)

It varies. Sometimes they go the main cable box outside and stop the entire connection. I think in our case it was just too complicated to go to every wall connection.

If there is just one wall connection, they might disconnect it there.

It was free of charge. Cablecom does not want anyone having access to even basic cable unless they pay for it.

If you live in an apartment building where basic cable is part of the nebenkosten, you need to go through the property manager.

In my experience, they are not in a hurry to do this for you and will try to bill you for the time that they believe the connection was active.
Send your disconnection request with registered post and make sure the technician gives you a written confirmation that he has disabled the connection before he leaves.

Re: UPC Sealing a cable connection (plombierung)

I've sent a letter to the landlord and they replied back:
Quote:

It is my understanding from their letter that they are telling me I will have to pay a technician to seal the tv connection. From other posts I've seen here, I thought they couldn't legally charge for that, but as I search I find nothing that includes a source document.

Can they charge me to seal the connection? What should that cost?

Well, in this letter they don't talk about the sealing part (is it done?)

They are telling you that if you move out you have to put it back to how it was (have it reopened). Which is normal as you must leave a flat the way you took it over.

Re: UPC Sealing a cable connection (plombierung)

I don't think that it has been done, but I wouldn't know for certain because we don't own a tv. The connections are visible in the apartment (no sticker or blank plate over them)

That is their initial reply to my request to terminate our cable connection.

Re: UPC Sealing a cable connection (plombierung)

As I said here I quit mine this year. But I was no longer paying the connection costs to the landlord but direct to UPC. They said that they don't actually plug up the connection physically. They just deaktivate it. In your case it may be different.

Plugging it up will be free. If you move out then unplugging will cost you.

I guess sealing it is not really necessary. You're either a cablecom client or you're not. They don't seal Swisscom homphone sockets when one is not a client of their's either.

So as the landlord took notice of you no longer being a cablecom client and agreed with adjusting the "Nebenkosten" from now on, you're fine.

Re: UPC Sealing a cable connection (plombierung)

Well I was wondering if they don't plug it up then I could still use it for my radio connection. Or would they know that I am using it?

In their letter to me they wrote:

"ab dem Kündigungsdatum die Nutzung den 3 in1 Kabelanschluss von UPC nicht mehr zulässig ist " Translated."you are not allowed to use the plug after the date of quitting it"

You got the answer - you're looking for the question?!
There is tv show like that, I think. Wouldn't that be more fun?

Does not answer the question of whether UPC can see who is plugged into their radio plug. And the answer is Noohhh! But I think I prefer unpluged!

No it doesn't. So you wanna cheat ... okay ....
It's just a guess but they can possibly see if there is activity, maynot on your specific socket but of the house.
On the other hand they might not as it's not internet, is it.

You try it and tell us after a few months

Re: UPC Sealing a cable connection (plombierung)

Can you give me an example of the UPC socket? I think I don't have it at home.
I've one that I think it's from Swisscom because when I installed my Sunrise router I had to put a pin on a Swisscom page.
Is there any website where I can provide my address and check if it is installed before I receive any bill?

Looks pretty much like one of these - I believe the layout is provider-independent.

Nowadays - as far as I heard - they don't do the physical sealing anymore, but disable it remotely instead. Most cable providers moved to "smart" (managed) distribution networks, which no longer require on-site interventions.

Why not just call UPC customer service and ask?
