| | Re: My review of Fibre in Zurich (FTTH/Init7/EWZ) | Quote: | | | | | Hi guys!
As this thread is about fiber, let me ask maybe a bit strange question: with OTO-socket you have up to four fiber links, right? Is it possible to subscribe to two different ISPs (just imagining that I could use 2Gbps)? | | | | | Well assuming you do actually have multiple fibre connections in the wall socket then you would probably need to have both connected to the same ISP for link aggregation. Also you would need a router that supports ethernet link aggregation and a computer with two Gbps ethernet ports running in aggregation mode to achieve 2 Gbps - or you're fully sorted with 10Gbps ethernet on everything (which is still expensive today).
If you need 2Gbps for a number of machines doing their own thing then fine, but if you're looking to get things downloaded as fast as possible on one machine then you'll quickly find out that the rest of the internet is simply not that fast.
I have a gigabit link, but outside of the real major players I don't get anywhere near a gigbit in terms of download speeds. With Apple I pretty much get the full load, with Steam around half, and with everything else it's rarely above 100Mbps.

Link aggregation will not use both gigabit links to extend the downloadspeed from/to the same source/destination. It will only help if you have several computers that are downloading within the same time window

It's not about typical consumer internet usage, I have a "homelab" and I do some researches about internet infrastructure (starting from DNS, ending with which js libraries are being used on 200m websites), so I could easily utilise 1Gbps and more (balancing between uplinks).

Hi all. We are lucky to be moving into a fibre enabled apartment next month - Kreis 3 in Zurich. There is some great info on englishforum about various providers, but a lot of it is a few months old now. I see there are a number of new providers and some on the EWZ website that aren't mentioned here. I've done a lot reading and checking out different deals, reviews of companies etc. I'm a bit of a novice with this stuff so the mind starts to boggle a bit. Hoping someone might have some recent feedback regarding service/speeds/current pricing.
We're looking at getting an internet connection only. Our two person household does a fair bit of music downloading and Netflix viewing, general surfing. I read that a fiber connection of between 25-40 should satisfy our needs. From my research Leucom looks like the best deal:
- 30mbit/s 39CHF per month, 1 month free trial and 3 extra months free
- Free installation, router, and instruction (so no start up costs)
- Local - based in Schlieren
Does anyone have any experience with Leucom or have any feedback? Or alternatively, still love their current provider and maybe have some type of referral benefits? I've read a lot of online reviews and as with everything there are good and bad ones. I would be grateful for any opinions/advice.

I also found their offer to be the best for my needs, and I am thinking of switching to them.
One of the disadvantages is the router maybe, that seems a bit cheaper than the one offered by others, but I will see later if I need something better.
One pro that I noticed: if you decide to also go with their TV offer, then they have better international channels than others, at a first look.

Does anyone have experience with Internet Group ( www.internetgroup.ch) as provider in terms of service, hardware included, billing, availability etc.?
I'm considering their offer since it has a pretty low setup cost and the monthly rates are even lower than Fiber7...

Anybody want to share his referral code for init7?
My cousin wants to sign up and has asked me if I had init7 - I would probably have it, but my employer still pays for my DSL and I can't get fibre to my building anyway.
I'll share your code with him.
