Porting number from ALDI Mobile to Orange

Hello everyone,

I have read other threads on porting a number from other networks to Orange and I didn't find anyone who tried to do it from ALDI, so I decided to ask - apols if this has been mentioned before.

On Dec 27th I went to an Orange salon in Winterthur and asked for my ALDI Mobile PrePaid number to be transferred to Orange PostPaid, with a contract for a year. I signed the contract and because I requested online billing, I didn't receive a copy of my contract on paper (which I found odd). I also didn't receive a temporary number from Orange - all the consultant said was to send a text message to 499 with the word "yes" in it (which I did right there and then) and that it would take 10 days for the number to transfer. I received an Orange SIM card, and was instructed to wait for a message from them to inform me when the number transfer was completed to insert that SIM into my phone. And that was it. So I went home and awaited the text message, as well as the email with my contract.

But these never came - neither my contract, nor the confirmation SMS that was supposed to arrive within 10 days. As I am due to go to Poland for a week soon (on the 9th of Jan), I wanted to check on the status of the number transfer, to make sure the now-Orange number will be active when I go abroad. I went into the Orange salon and talked to the very same assistant I spoke to before. I was told that he couldn't see the date by which the number will have been active in the system, and that I should call customer support, who will know. I called, and they asked me for the temporary number I was to have received... When I said I hadn't received one, the CS told me to contact the salon again...

I would like to know whether anyone has had similar experiences with Orange number transfers - or more generally, how long does it usually take for the number to port, and is it normal for Orange to take their time even sending the contract via email? I will appreciate any pointers - before I go to the salon again on Monday.

Hi,

if you got a SIM card, you will have also received the Temporary number, have a look at the simcard and you will the number printed onto it.

the SMS/TXT sometimes takes longer, but you will get it.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the SIM card while speaking to Orange CS (they asked for the temp number too) and there is no number on it, just a bar code. The consultant was just as surprised as me.

That is strange indeed, All cards come with 4 different simcard numbers printed on them: Mobile phone number, Sim card number, Sim Pin and PUK numbers (See below image).

I think the shop assistant gave you the wrong type of simcard, Also he/she should have given you a contract paper (irrespective of you asking for online billing or not).

where did you go to get this contact/Sim?

One of the other option is to put the new sim into a phone and try to find the number from within, there are both android and iphone apps that can do that for you, alternatively tell me what type of phone you have and I might be able to give you some more help on how to get the phone number from the sim using a phone.

Edit: I just did some research and some orange pre-pay sim cards do not come with numbers, they are allocated with the fist topup!

But as you asked for a postpay 12 month contact, the shop assistant should have given you a postpay sim. Again, it looks like the shop gave you the wrong type of Sim

Thanks again - so it seems I got one SIM too few. The SIM I have does not, in fact, have a phone number on it. The package however is called "Welcome to PostPay" - so I would guess that's the SIM I am going to use once my old number is active. I did not however receive a SIM card with a temporary phone number I am supposed to be using until my old ALDI number is active with Orange - which is the one the CS asked for when I rang them to check up on my transfer status. I would also guess the information on whether or not a number is assigned to the SIM that I had received would be on the actual contract - that I don't have, neither on paper or sent over via email.

I will definitely drop in by Orange in Winterthur and ask the assistant two things - one, where is my contract and why haven't I received it yet, in paper or electronic form and two, what's the situation with the temporary number, since that is the first thing the Orange CS person asked for when trying to check my information through their system. It is possible I am NOT in their system yet, although I signed the contract on Dec 27th.
