| | Re: What’s App | Quote: | | | | | Still using WhatsApp because I personally don't see the point in fleeing to Signal or whatever since most of my contacts use WhatsApp. It's not like we share state secrets or nude pictures so I don't care. | | | | | It's not even about the content you exchange (that is encrypted end-to-end, except when it's "at rest" in a backup it seems).
There is a long list of metadata you can find earlier in the thread.

Fitbit has been taken over by Google so I’ve decided to stop wearing mine. They promise not to use Fitbit’s data for 20 years. And if you believe that, I have a bridge in New York you might be interested in buying.

Have stayed away purposely from google fit and was so annoyed to read this. What are you moving to?

That's why I have a very limited time on Instagram. I don't feel the urge to compulsively check it out every 10 minutes. FB, Instagram, Twitter etc. they all create addiction because they need our data. But it's not like we can't exercise any self-control. | Quote: | | | | | I am flabbergasted at the number of people who seriously thought that when FB acquired whastapp in 2016 they did not start sharing data? And not switching for the same reason. I don't have "virtual friends" on WhatsApp, I'm in contact only with people I know IRL too.

They don’t sell advertising to outside parties. They make their money primarily from selling hardware, and services like iTunes. But they do have a fairly closed environment.

| | Re: What’s App | Quote: | | | | | Whatsapp have postponed the change to their terms of service and privacy update. This comes as a result of people moving to alternatives. Seems to me to be a PR disaster for Facebook! | | | | | I saw that too (not on whatsapp as I left but in the media). Same difference, February 8th or some time in May.
Just gives them time to rethink how to do this. Only that is not what this is all about | | | | | Of course it's not only that, but unlike some people here I don't make my life mission to get people to switch to Signal. If everyone else in my circle will be moving, I'll follow suit. But I have to tell you, so far nobody made the move. Most people I know just want to keep in touch, they don't use WhatsApp as they would use FB for instance.

You can send your nude pictures via whatsapp around the world as much as you like, whatsapp will never see them.
