English Channels on Swisscom TV Package

I am about to move to Swisscom (full internet and TV package) as I am moving house. I have been given different advice from 2 different Swisscom shop about it is clear for the English marked tv channels on the channel list that Swisscom provide. However one shop indicated that some of the German channels are dual language and can be changed to english. The other shop indicated that this was not the case. Is anyone with Swisscom able to clarify for me if some of the german channels can be changed to english and if so which ones. Thanks in advance.

Re: English Channels on Swisscom TV Package

The Swiss channels often have the 2nd audio channel active. It costs so they're usually the only ones doing it.

So that would be the German, French and Italian regional TV channels, more often the "2" not "1" channel.

Not everything has a 2nd audio channel available though.

Re: English Channels on Swisscom TV Package

Swisscom have the full channel list on their site.

I have the vivo casa big package TV plus or something and it does not have the full UK free view listing. It's missing things (crap) like Dave, Really, Quest. Stuff you can watch online via zattoo etc.
I have never been able to dual language a channel but I've only tried it on the French stuff.

Bottom line, depends what you want, just cos you buy the full package doesn't mean you get everything

Re: English Channels on Swisscom TV Package

We have Vivo Casa but we had to get some teleclub channels to get everything we wanted. The German stations TNT series, TNT film, fox, 13th street and other film stations have dual channel most of the time. I've also found dual channel on some French and Italian channels for series produced originally in English. Same with the German discovery, mat group, etc. it's all trial and error.

How do you get the dual channels? I've played around with the subtitle settings etc but no joy, I can only get english subtitles on english channels and french on french etc.. I didn't see any option to actually change the language.

There are a few that I've found, mainly the Swiss national ones, which sometimes have dual language when showing English language content. The decoder remote has a button that will switch between languages, although there's nothing to tell you if a second language is available, you just need to try it and see. Can't remember exactly what it's marked with, but on ours it's second from left on the bottom row, IIRC.

Re: English Channels on Swisscom TV Package

We have the basic SwissCom package for landline, TV & internet. This gives us BBC1-4, ITV1-2, C4, C5, E4, Film4, CNN, BBCNews, SkyNews and a few others I can't recall without looking.

The dual language options on various non-English channels tend to operate for my requirements, where one of the two needs to be English, on dubbed programmes where the original is English/American. The second language will often then be English. For me French/German dual language is less useful! When the advert break comes on these will not be dual language. The only way to find out is to flick through and see what happens when you hit the "change the language" button. I have never attempted to look for foreign sub-titles though.

Ok. I have the same remote as you. I click on "info" (right lower quadrant under "OK"and then use the right horizontal arrow (the silver rim around "ok") to get to "additional audio" or something like that on screen. Then use the down arrow to select the alternate language. - if there is one - and see if it's English. Then press the ok button in the middle if it's what you want, otherwise, press exit (upper leftquadrant).

We set up our system to be in English. If yours is in German, not sure about the on screen menu items, but the language one is next yo last or last (can't remember).

Re: English Channels on Swisscom TV Package

Swiss channels have the dual language option. You can watch the programme in the language it was originally filmed in... Not always English!

Re: English Channels on Swisscom TV Package

I find it hard to comprehend that there is such a big difference between the settings of Swisscom and Cablecom systems.

With Cc. there are language options on the 'box' and default language can be set to English, so any program/channel that has an option for English audio, will automatically play in English.

Also with the Digicard, I can set my TV in the same way.

Re: English Channels on Swisscom TV Package

As far as I can see Swisscom has the best choice of channels for English TV, we are in the french part and certain french channels offer the dual language option, its really easy to switch it over, there does not seem to be a way to set as default though.

Re: English Channels on Swisscom TV Package

Another good option for english channels (and many others languages) is Zattoo. Works on TV, tablets, phones even with a basic Wi-Fi connection.
