Re: [Everything Swisscom TV -- formerly] Bluewin TV

The connection you are talking about is VDSL.

There are not many VDSL modems on the market and hence:

1/ They are expensive
2/ Don't have very high specs.

I would suggest adding a 'Wireless Access point. There are some good access points with Wireless-N and Giga ports. Then you can connect this to your VDSL. Your NAS or system with the media on can be connected to one of the Giga-ports to ensure you have a good data speed.

I however use cables for this sort of thing, wireless is just for the odd bit of surfing etc..

btw, be aware to setup your Wireless on the VDSL system provided by Swisscom/BLuewin you will have to do this through thier portal which also enables them to see your setup, password for Admin, and to add additional wireless access points.

Re: [Everything Swisscom TV -- formerly] Bluewin TV

Hi Thanks for your response.

So what you're saying is - VDSL router (maybe even non-wifi) with a good quality wirelessN router? Sounds like a plan.

So it's also possible to have an ethernet connection between the router and TV Box?

Yeah i don't like the idea of having to sign-in etc. via the portal, but there is no agreement with CC in my house, and so without this i'm a little dead in the water.

Therefore the trio sounds like a good idea, from a package/price perspective.

Re: [Everything Swisscom TV -- formerly] Bluewin TV

For ADSL-MAx, the router is actually VDSL.

This does come with Wireless capability. However you can add your own if you want Wireless-N (as I think the device they provide only supports b & g).

The router is supplied by Swisscom/Bluewin, but remains thier property for the duration of your contract.

I don't have to use the Portal, but I am running an old version of the firmware. For Bluwin-TV you MUST use the latest firmware.

Therefore I would suggest disabling the wireless on the Swisscom box (also remove the aerial if possible) then install your own Wireless access point.

Also set the Admin password to something different to all your other passwords.

Re. Technology

All,
Before I get too slated...I love technology and all that it brings but I also miss stuff that works.

I sooo wish you could just plug stuff in and it works like coaxial does.
No need for drivers, downloads, protocols, clever work arounds.
Maybe I am just stoopid but.....I just wanna watch TV godammit for my few chf per month!

Not waste time on buletin boards, download sites, trial and error solutions.

Why do we put up with it? Does nobody want to appear stupid and ask why it just won't work? Are we the problem?

Of course I end up making it work like you too, after a bit of trial and error, but isn't that missing the point?

Am just gald there is not much worth watching these days. Makes it painless to miss an F1 GP, the UK Election or an Indian Jones movie I saw 10 years ago, but the failed expectations really ....me off.

A grumpy D.

Re: [Everything Swisscom TV -- formerly] Bluewin TV

Im thinking of upgrading to the HD recording box as I currently have the basic box. Prime motivation is watching the World Cup in HD, can anyone confirm that BBC HD will definitely be broadcasting their BBC allocated games on the BBC HD channel. Cheers.

The 2006 World Cup was broadcast in HD. And it says here: BBC Studios and Post Production (BBCSPP) is designing and building a post-production operation and HD studio for BBC Sport to deliver HD, multiplatform coverage of the 2010 World Cup.

Re: [Everything Swisscom TV -- formerly] Bluewin TV

What warranty is there on the Swisscom boxes? Mine doesn't seem to be recording anything or playing old recordings anymore...will I have to pay to get this fixed or what's the lay of the land here.
