Re: Problem with Bluewin

looks like you've done what you can. Supply is being outstripped by demand - plus it's an engineer visit to install it.

edit: reading through the thread into which yours has been merged, 3-4 weeks looks to be "normal".

Yep - and they even warn you about it when you sign up. The arrival of ground digital tv has just worsened the situation btw.

Bluewin TV for ADSL users on the verge of being canceled

Bad news for those who receive the "light" version of BW-TV (that's the low-end version for those who can't get VDSL and only have one channel at a time via ADSL):

http://www.digi-tv.ch/showthread.php?t=2401

Obviously Swisscom wants to cancel the service for non-VDSL users because of the high installation costs and because the low-speed ADSL users prevent Swisscom from upping the transfer rates (necessary for better image quality).

Somewhere else on the digi-tv.ch forum I also read that Swisscom will start offering HD this fall - but only for VDSL users that have 16 kbit/s (or faster) access.

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

Are there still offers floating about for Bluewin where you do not have to pay the 95CHF installation fee? Like a letter to existing Swisscom customers? Or am I dreaming?

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

Does anyone know whose remote control the Blue Win Box Uses. I am trying to steam the video through a Slingbox, but since the Blue Win Box is not listed as one the devices, I am looking for a generic remote control to do the job.

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

I have tried this evening to use the Bluewin TV site to access the availability of Bluewin TV in the Vaud by typing in my Swisscom tel. number. I cannot get a response. Does anyone know if it is available here?

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

A short update - Bluewin installed an update last week that seems to have solved the synchronization problem with sound and picture on recorded TV. Additionally the navigation between channels is faster. Overall still very satisfied with the system and customer service.

the guy who came to install at my place did everything and he even configured all 3 computers at home. he will also hide all the cables, so don't worry. he did a very good job. you will have bluwin within 2 weeks after ordering. I'm happily watching bluwin tv. no complains. So have fun!!!
Do you happen to know if Bluewin TV is available further down the Riviera, say Villeneuve? I am trying to find out from the UK and the Bluewin website is not responding to the enquiry.

Got the answer out of Swisscom now. A polite 'No'! No indication of when, either. Shame.

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

Does anyone know if it is possible to hook the bluewin tv into a laptop/PC monitor and just use the laptop as a tv, because if i'm not mistaken you can do this pretty easily for regular cable by just buying an adapter to connect to your PC..

Thanks

I'd guess all you need is a normal TV-adapter. In terms of signals going to the TV, BW-TV is no different from all other cable- or satellite-boxes.

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

The outputs from the box are composite, s-video, component, RGB SCART and HDMI. There is no VGA output. Therefore you can only use a PC/laptop if you buy something like a Hauppauge TV adaptor that has inputs that match one of the above (usually composite and s-video). Even with one of those, you can only view SD and NOT HD as no PC box I know of supports capture of HD material (yet).

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

Thanks folks

I'll look into getting an adapter, it's would be just a temporary solution as we want to wait a few weeks before buying a TV, I'm hoping January sales will result in some price cuts.

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

The clock on my bluewin digibox thing is 5 mins slow. Does anyone else have that problem? Can you change the clock? I thought it was set automatically, but not sure how it can be automatically wrong if done at some central time place.

Just reset the box, either via the settings menu or simply turn off the power and the clock will reset to the actual system time. I do this approx once per month since it does have a tendancy to drift.

If after restarting it it's still 5 min. slow then reset all the clocks in your house because they all are 5 min. too fast...

Thankfully that wasn't the problem, although given that I am always but always late for work, perhaps I should set them about 20 mins fast and I might actually get to work on time...

And I am sitting here now, and the church bells are chiming midnight, my computer clock is set at midnight, and now, so is my bluewin TV set at midnight. Order comes to all in the end, I guess.

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

Well,

Bluewin TV launches 4 HD channels including BBC HD

As far as I can remember, Cablecom charges extra and you can't record so the bluewin offer looks good since there's no extra charge and you can continue to use your existing box.

Unfortunately, I can't receive the HD channels until they upgrade the infrastructure in my area.... but I'm (HD) ready and waiting!

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

Hi Jekyll,

Thanks for the information, we just managed to get Bluewin TV nailed in last week, the HD TV is supposed to turn up on Monday so will be interesting to see if it lives up to all the hype!

Strange though as I asked in the Swisscom shop before deciding on which TV to buy as they told me, there would be no HD for a few years, just as well I opted for something better!
