Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

Thanks for the replies guys, but it doesn't really answer my question. I'm aware of the connection options (wireless, powerline etc), but I'm looking for an objective opinion on the relative merits/disadvantages of each.

Question is, as the phone jack and TV will be on opposite sides of the living room, what are the best connection options?
The Bluewin kit comes with a 20 or 30m CAT5 cable included, so it's not a problem to run the cable to the other side of the room. I'd reccomend that, as it's quick and easy. I tried a wifi repeater but the 2.4Ghz band is so crowded, it got interference all the time (especially from the microwave oven), I just gave up with it ....I have it in my closet and am willing to sell it if you're interested (I'm not a good salesman, am I? )

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

I have had no problems with my wireless repeater, so I would recommend it based on my experience.

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

I seem to have a strange problem with the remote. Seems to work fine in the morning, but the later it gets the worse the signal, until I have to change channels on the box.

Tried two different boxes and had the same problem.

Anyone else has this odd problem?

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

Actually, I realised there is an unused outlet on the wall where the TV would go, covered up with 1 of those small plastic covers. I examined it last night and it has a single wire/cable in it. Could these be an unused phone-jack socket? It is was electric, I would expect 3 wires, correct? If it is a phone socket, it would certainly solve my wiring problems.

I've seen this problem before and the solution will baffle you in its compexity but it works so just trust the process. 1) change its batteries.....

Just joking

Re: Can You Rent A Movie In English Through Bluewin Tv?

Bluewin on demand, no (only German, French and Italian) but rented DVDs (like the ones you buy) also contain (in most cases) the original language (English).
I've seen a couple of posts that suggest the above is not true.

Can someone confirm that you can indeed get Bluewin on demand in English for films?

Am guessing you won't for the sports on demand?

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

Confirmed - the majority of on-demand films are available in original language. The list is clearly visible in the Bluewin TV magazine that I guess you can pick up in a Swisscom shop.

Sports are not in English.

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

However the Sky sports channels are changeable to english on the telelclub package which you can add to your basic bluewin subscription.
Just a bit pricey.

Anyone else compared the Satellite version of teleclub with the Cable/Bluewin variants?

It seems you can get most sky channels through teleclub satellite including movies, sports etc. As usual with swiss mutually exclusive marketing I can't find a matrix to compare easily the bluewin offering with the satellite.

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

Seems a lot and for me I'd only want to watch the odd football match.

I guess most of these matches will be available with the Bluewin on-demand service?

It's the TeleClub sport package, see the following link for prices: http://www.teleclub.ch/BluewinTv/PreisePakete.aspx

But take note in those package prices, you first must subscribe to the TeleClub Basic 29.90chf. then there are the additional packages such as the Sport 12.90chf. Total cost for basic plus the sport channels 42.80chf per month.

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

If you have a satellite setup then you can elect to take only the Sports from Teleclub. This is cheaper but slightly off-topic in this thread.

Any further news on the rumoured SFr 2,50 PPV Premiership games?

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

Just to say, I ordered Bluewin shortly after moving to our new appt. That was on the Tuesday and the STB arrived the next day. When I spoke to the CS guy that evening about a related matter, he said it would be activated after 10 days. I was a bit peeved and told him so. However, that Friday, once the VDSL was activated, I plugged in the receiver, it updated immediately and we were able to watch TV immediately. The family were most pleased I must say. Thumbs up for Swisscom so far from me at least.

That'll save me a few francs down at Paddy's! Where did the rumour originate?

Ditto

It was mentioned in a thread a few weeks back, that a salesman at the Swisscom shop was talking about it. There was a also a link to a story in the media, but there's been no confirmation as yet.

I was able to watch the Rangers v Seville match last night on the On-Demand service with english commentary. I guess you get the option to listen to the commentary from the country the match is played in.

If like myself you only want to watch the odd football match then this may be a cheaper way than ordering the teleclub basic + sports package. May also avoid the need for any lengthy minimum contract periods.

What I haven't been able to work out yet is what games teleclub have that won't be made available on the Bluewin on-demand service.

p.s. Well done Seville

Re: [Everything] Bluewin TV

Swisscom gets even better! My wife just texted me to say they had sent a 2nd Bluewin box. We now have 2 Bluewin boxes and 3 wireless routers in total.

Similarly the Arsenal game on On-Demand was the regular UK Sky transmission in English.
