doomed Sony KD-55X9005B :(

This is a sad tale involving the official World Cup 2014 TV I am so upset that felt like sharing

I was so excited about the World Cup 2014 starting tomorrow that I went online and ordered the new Sony KD-55X9005B official World Cup 2014 TV. I bought it from http://buchmann.ch that has a very good high rating on TopPreise. Just to be completely on the safe side I ordered the new TV paying the extra 30 CHF for insured transportation. We are in Switzerland so what can go wrong? EVERYTHING!

I'm at work, delivery arrives and my wife caring my one year old daughter goes to open the entrance door. The delivery men refuse to bring the TV up the stairs and what do they do? they ask my wife to bring it herself seeing she has a one year old daughter with her. She is shocked, surprised and confused. She complains and the delivery men drag the TV up to the elevator and say "it could be damaged by this" and leave. She had to drag the TV all the way from the elevator to the apartment by herself.

The end result, this is what I get see attached, a doomed and expensive Sony KD-55X9005B to ache the World Cup with.

Can anyone please explain, is it only me that the Swiss quality hides from?

Re: doomed Sony KD-55X9005B :(

Even though the whole experience does not look good, I am still not sure about the real complaint.

Is it the delivery guys

or

quality of the TV (where I fail to see the relevance to Swiss quality standards)

I know, but now I have to suffer a RMA in Switzerland and not be able to enjoy the World Cup while at it. If this is how they do business to sell new, let alone what comes with RMA's.

Re: doomed Sony KD-55X9005B :(

you should have gone to a big box store and carried it out unblemished.

you can't have the best of both worlds.

did you buy on credit card?

Re: doomed Sony KD-55X9005B :(

It's a pain but... it must have at least a one year warranty. Call them up and tell them it's not working and they need to take it away.

(And if you paid with a credit card.. tell them what's happened)

Yes I bought it with Credit Card and with insured transportation, see attached. While preparing this picture (also for my records, because it is the only proof that they offered insured transportation) I realized that Buchmann increased the price from 3'000CHF to 3'400CHF Maybe they knowingly sent to me a faulty one to claim the insurance and that's why I got it cheaper? Perhaps it is time to get Sony to do something about fishy resellers otherwise how to explain the sudden price change?

But that's the irony of the situation: Buchmann does have a shop, you can pick up stuff there. (Can be seen in the picture above).

Unsere Öffnungszeiten sind wie folgt:
Mo. - Fr. 10.00-12.00 und 14.00-18.30
Sa. 9.00 - 16.00

It's in Wallisellen.

It says, you have to deal with the manufacturer for any warranty-related issues....

Clear, that's why I chose to pay 30CHF and have "totally insured".

Seems like a load of money for a 1920 x 1080 TV, 55 inches size, why pay so much, it's not as if Sony makes the flat panel anyway......

Because it is the official TV for watching the World Cup 2014, otherwise the games will not be watchable, no? kidding the games will look bad for me now for sure

I confess that I'm a Sony boy-fan (maybe no longer after this), I felt compelled to upgrade to have the DVB-C receiver and be able to enjoy the free HD channels offered by Cablecom. My older Sony didn't have DVB-C support. Once I was in a quest for a new TV I started researching and ended choosing the cutting-edge of the technology:
  • 4K
  • X-tended Dynamic Range™
  • 4K X-Reality™ PRO
  • 3D active (best quality available)
and so I end in a complete fail. For that money I could have been going every day to a first class row in any bar of my choice for the whole month

Well, maybe they take it back and refund the money.
Then you can go to the other dealer that claims to have it in stock...

There is no 4k broadcast TV.......about 10% Hollywood features are post produced in 4k. Unless you have a screen much bigger than 55 inches you won't see any benefit unless it's on your desktop.

Only Dolby have really extended dynamic range, however none are in consumer land yet.

The best Digital camera can record 14 stops, one that claims 16 is nearer 13.
No screen can display 10,000 : 1, which would be a very flat milky picture even possible ......... Even so some claim 5 million : 1. Very few screens can display 1000:1 at the same time I.e a. Chess board pattern. Black is measured with the TV turned off & white as bright as possible to get the huge range claimed it's very easy to measure the range of a TV with a spot meter......

Re: doomed Sony KD-55X9005B :(

I suspect the price increase is more to do with the fact that the world cup is about to start than dodgy dealing, an event like the world cup probably causes a spike in sales so they put up prices to take that into account.

It could also be something as simple as they got a new delivery and the exchange rate changed.

As for delivery, was it their delivery men or a third party courier, and did you pay for delivery and installation or just delivery?? If you just paid for delivery then I'm pretty sure somewhere in the small print it will say delivery is to the front door and if that is a communal front door then they unfortunately they fulfilled their commitment, yes it would seem to be a bit unfair that they expected your wife carrying your child to lug a big TV by herself, I have a sneaking suspicion that the same would hold true with any company.
