English Premier League PPV w/ Swisscom questions

Hello,

I have some questions and would like some views on the EPL PPV offer by Swisscom:

- First, is it a nationwide offer or just for the German-speaking part?
- How is the quality? Is it HD? Does it buffer?
- Is the commentary in English? If so, is it the Sky UK commentators?
- Is pre/half-time/post match analysis in English too? Is it the same as Sky UK?
- Are all matches (including Saturday 3pm) available, meaning that any match can be watched live?
- Is PPV only available with Swisscom (not with Sunrise or others)?

Iíve tried Skyís Now TV service and wasnít impressed with the sub-SD quality and buffering. Iím hoping that this will be as close to Skyís satellite quality as possible.

Thanks

The quality and buffering depends a lot on your internet connection and what ever you are using to present a UK IP (if you're using a free proxy/VPN service then it's likely to be slow).

I use Sky Go (via Overplay) - mainly for F1 - and the quality is fine; I couldn't say whether it's HD or not, but it's perfectly watchable on a 50" screen (I'd guess it's better than SD).

Re: English Premier League PPV w/ Swisscom questions

Hi, I've watched several Premier League PPV games on Swisscom.
  • No, it is also available in Romandy (I live in Fribourg)
  • HD option available, no buffering
  • German commentary only
  • No half-time analysis, just highlights, adverts, EPL recaps etc
  • No, only selected matches
  • Can't answer, I only have Swisscom

Re: English Premier League PPV w/ Swisscom questions

From my research into this, the PPV is only on Swisscomm.

http://www.teleclub.ch/cms/service/faq/sport

I'm torn between

a) going with Cablecom and getting the Teleclub package and hoping that the games I want are on there.

b) going with Cablecom and finding something online that i can stream from a different country

c) going with Swisscomm (more expensive) and buying PPV games

Difficult to commit without knowing what games will be on Teleclub and which on PPV.

Re: English Premier League PPV w/ Swisscom questions

Having said that, I am yet to rent a game with Swisscom TV 2.0, which I had installed recently. Although it generally works OK, it does have issues with recorded, replayed, live pause and PPV programmes; locks, pauses etc (I know this from experience and also a friend of mine works on the troubleshooting project team ).

I used a reputable non-free VPN. The problems seemed to more be on Sky's end (servers getting hammered) than on mine.

Commentary: Are you sure that there's no English. Looking at the Teleclub page: http://www.teleclub.ch/romandie/cms/service/faq/sports
It says on the Romandie page that you can have either English or German commentary, but on the German-speaking page, it says just German. This may be because they assume that French-speakers may prefer English and that German-speakers want German. I also wonder whether you maybe have the "German" package in Fribourg?

Match selection: Could you please give an indication as to how many matches were available on a regular Saturday?

Thanks

They may have changed it in the off-season and with the roll-out of TV 2.0, I'll have to check.
Last season they had maybe one or two high-profile games per match day.

Edit: according to this link (scroll down), Swisscom will broadcast 3 premier league PPV games per match day.

Has anyone also noticed that Swisscom hasn't shown a single English Premier League game this season. I've gone on their tv page on their website and it seems they don't plan on either in the upcoming fixtures. Any idea how I can watch the games. I'll cancel my Swisscom pachakge if I have to!

I watched Liverpool vs WBA PPV in the local pub at the weekend through Swisscom.

Correction: A quick Google search informs me that EPL games will be shown on SFR Sport 1, available as part of the Teleclub Sport package, commentary in French and no longer as PPV events. As far as I can tell, this is applicable in Suisse romande only, but that needs verifying.

Yes I also ended up driving to the pub meaning I couldn't enjoy a drink just to watch the Chelsea v Man U. Don't even support any of the teams (I'm Arsenal) but it was consolation to see Man U being thrashed!

Anyway the whole idea why I got the sports package on Swisscom was so that I stay home.

I cancelled as soon as I saw DAZN. I wasn't happy with last year's minimalist coverage by Swisscom and it was a lot of money to pay just for the 3 EPL games as I wasn't using the movies channel.

The only things I am missing now is CL games that are not covered by German/Austrian/Swiss TV which is only an issue until March when Arsenal inevitably get knocked out.

Yes it took me a while to cotton on to this poor service delivery by Swisscom when it came to EPL games. I suppose I was dejected last year after Arsenal capitulated during the Christmas fixtures. I was really looking forward to relaxing at home last Sunday and watch the game with a beer and then having to go out in the rain didn't feel that great. Anyway thanks for the heads up. I'll be ringing Swisscom to cancel my sports and movies package as I too don't watch the movies. It was mainly for the EPL games. Thinking of getting Sky's Europe package with the dish. I have a feeling Arsenal will win it this season and I want to be able to follow all the games

So turns out Swisscom now show EPL games on a channel called SFR Sport 1 and not on the traditional teleclub channels that I had becomes used to watching them. Anyway settling down to watch the Arsenal lunchtime kick-off. 😎

Re: English Premier League PPV w/ Swisscom questions

You could just stream it live for free. Google will help if you search:
"Acestream Bloodzeed EPL". Add a HDMI cable and there you go, free HD footie. Generally minimal lag / buffering.

AFAIK P2P streaming is legal in Switzerland, just don't seed.

I use an old, unimportant laptop where there's little potential security compromise. Acestream can be a bit slack with security but as long as you're not using your main devices its a breeze.

Bloodzeed isn't as useful as he was as he now restricts access to many games to his subscribers (there is something seriously wrong with a streamer having a subscription system. Donations OK but subs...?)

However there's plenty of others. Reddit is the best place to look these days

Am i right in thinking the commentary on SFR1 is in french with no option to change it (English, German or even stadium sound would be fine)?

Re: English Premier League PPV w/ Swisscom questions

I understood that Swiss TV no longer broadcasts EPL games (neither does Cablecom) as the rights are now with DAZN.

I used DAZN and am quite happy with them. There 4 games live on a weekend and all games can be viewed retroactively. They also show Championship games and La Liga and also NFL (wrong shape ball, but.....). Cost about CHF 13 a month.

Only problem is that the commentary is in German....

Re: English Premier League PPV w/ Swisscom questions

I think DAZN only have the german region rights, which is why Swisscom / Teleclub can show the games with French commentary on the SFR1 channel.

I've signed up to DAZN this weekend and have seen the quality of the catchup is fantastic but the live games can be a bit hit and miss. The german commentary is ok and I think I can put up with it

DAZN has no champ league / Europea League rights, correct? Do you know if Swisscom TV still have these on PPV?

I just wish they would sort out their AppleTV app!
