Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

Tried the free trial. Quality is insufficient (but i would expect that from a stream), english subtitles are lacking, and as it always happen they forgot italian switzerland (but i can accept that).
I mostly watch english tv series and movies and i want and often need the subs, sometimes french or other language movies in that case subtitles in eng or italian, but i only watch original language. There are thousands of people that do this, and I'm sure some would like to become netflix users especially those in countries where P2P is restricted or those who don't care much about quality, so i would expect english subtitles to be available.
Btw even if there were no subtitles there are several online communities that publish subtitles in english and other languages the day after the episode was aired, maybe they could add a way to upload your own subtitles and sync them for personal use or something.

Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

having used Netflix for a long time, I'd say quality is pretty good for a stream, I have a 55" HDTV and it's a splendid picture.

I do agree with Ticino being forgotten and so do many in the trial month.

There's a French section on the International Movies page, but it looks similar to what I saw when I had Netflix in the US many years ago.

Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

Maybe I'm late to the party, but it's my first time trying Netflix and I'm really impressed. For 12.90 CHF, considering it's what I pay for Spotify Premium, an absolute bargain. The selection feels sufficiently vast, all languages available. But as a newbie I'm mostly stunned by how intuitive the user experience is from the get-go. They arrived on the Swiss market guns blazing. My new Sony TV comes with the Netflix app native and just being able to stream all these movies and shows through it feels sort of unreal. Like what I thought we'd be doing decades in the future. But no, you can turn this skinny-ass TV on and with a few button pushes of the same remote it's playing House of Cards in HD with no external input. I like it when modern technology can still surprise me.

I'm also quite happy with the selection - it's nowhere hear that of the US store, but hey, they've only just gotten started and I think what they have is respectable, especially compared to what the Swiss competitors offer.

Integration with the Sony TVs is indeed very neat - especially if you have a 4K one and get to watch House of Cards and Breaking Bad in all its glory :-)

Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

Hi,

Unfortunately my Samsung TV does not have a Netflix app. I don't have a HTPC so I am thinking of getting a bluray player but I am not sure which one.

Anyone has a suggestion for a low-cost bluray player that can play HD Netflix content? I have a good receiver with scaler and HDMI inputs so I don't care about high-end bluray players since anything beyond a digital transport will be a waste of money.

Thanks,
AlefSin

4k was a no-go for me because I wanted a TV with low-input lag for gaming. Sony's 2013-2014 LCD models finally reached the sweet spot of having incredible image quality and no input lag. I figured it was now or never to get one because they're increasingly focusing on 4k and that technology is not going to be optimized to be usable for gaming for a few years. And there's not enough 4k content or even a general manufacturer consensus on what 4k is, so I'll give them a few years to sort those things out.

I don't think you'll find an exhaustive list of Blu-Ray players with Netflix functionality in Europe for a while. This is a cheap one with Wi-fi and DLNA: http://www.toppreise.ch/prod_301349.html

Wow, thanks a lot. The features and the price suggest that it is exactly what I need. However, are you positive on Netflix streaming? I took a quick look at the Sharp's webpage and didn't find any mention of it. Nor the user manual talked about it.

Got Apple TV from Media Markt on the weekend(79.-) and signed to Netflix, pretty good quality. Not sure how to search movies though, anybody managed to figure that one out?

I more offered it as an alternative with DLNA as a stop-gap, since players with Netflix native won't be coming out in mainland Europe for a while. Here's a list of the cheapest ones available, in order of price: http://www.toppreise.ch/index.php?k3=1516&manu=&o=pa

Ah, OK, understood. I already have a region free Oppo BDP-83. I was hoping I could find something cheap to add Netflix to the bunch. So I guess I'll go for a Chromecast for the moment.

Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

I have a Panasonic bdt310 that I bought about 2 years ago. It has the Netflix app on it. their newer models might have it as well. also you might have a look at the sony players as the sony smart tvs have the Netflix app they might as well.

the Netflix app is also on xbox and playstation consoles if you like games.
the one on ps4 works very well.

Thanks a lot. My Samsung TV originally had the Netflix app but sometime along they, one of the firmware updates last year decided that we don't need Netflix here in Switzerland and deleted the app. Now the app is no longer in the oneline catalog!

I'll look at the sony players but it is a bit tricky since it seems that the same player might have different apps depending on the region. That's why I asked this question on EF since if somebody already has a player with working Netflix, that would be a %100 sure bet.

Option 1: Chromecast. You have a smartphone, right?

Option 2: Force reinstall of Smart Hub.

Option 3: Change region of Smart Hub. Choosing UK will give you some apps you can't use and also bring Netflix. Netflix on all platforms behaves according to your location and not where you've signed up. it's actually very interesting and rewarding to switch regions.

I've not managed to get the 3D content to stream from the US.....I assume there's too much latency using my "solution". Except that, everything is excellent.

I followed the instructions and changed my region to UK. I got a new list of the apps but Netflix was not there. I changed the region to the US. Sure enough, I got Netflix there! However, it didn't help much since after running the app all I got was a black screen. When I checked the settings screen I got a "Netflix ESN [disactivated]"...

I guess I cannot use the US region since this is a European model TV. However, I wonder why after selecting the UK region I didn't get the Netflix application.

You can also write Samsung and ask them to reintegrate the app in the next firmware update.

Interesting. What model do you have?

Did you try a factor reset? Or at least from the menu, you can force a reinstall of Smart Hub.

For a cheap solution, I'd look at Chromecast if you hit a brick wall; caveat is that you will use your phone as a remote.

OK guys, I believe I have hijacked the tread long enough! Thanks all for your help. I'll go down the Chromecast path for the moment and will experiment with other options as time allows. If I learn something new, I'll report.

Cheers,
AlefSin

ps. for the record, my TV is a Samsung LE40C750
