Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

Another, relatively inexpensive solution would be buying a WD Live box, that one has Netflix built in

OK guys, I believe I have hijacked the tread long enough! Thanks all for your help. I'll go down the Chromecast path for the moment and will experiment with other options as time allows. If I learn something new, I'll report.

Cheers,
AlefSin

ps. for the record, my TV is a Samsung LE40C750
Hey I have a samsung tv as well - if you change region on the network setting (check out unlocator.com for info) then you can load the ap in the Smart Hub and it works perfectly!

netflix in ch

probably everyone knows already but netflix is now in ch, which means no more proxy address relays and pretending you're in the usa and virtual credit cards and what-not. this means you can now without any hassle spend hours combing through lists of shite films/ films that you've seen already anyway. last night i watched 'river murders' with ray liotta. and i was like 'meh' but he said it was great.

Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

So, we're in the states getting ready for the big move over to CH and just have to ask: Do we or don't we get netflix here before we leave?

I watch several shows that I'd like to see after they air, like Big Bang Theory, Grey's Anatomy, Parenthood and wonder if we should set up a VPN or get Netflix (or Hulu instead). Answers appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

Getting access to American content on Netflix has been surprisingly easy with a simple browser add-on VPN (Hola!). I have a Swiss account and I just need to switch the Netflix page to the US version in Chrome with Hola! and all the US content is perfectly watchable. No paid VPN required. I almost don't want to write about it for fear that they'll crack down, but I assume they must be making it that easy on purpose. I know for a fact other streaming services like Hulu are much more strict with it.

This is through my computer connected to the TV by HDMI, though. If you only watch Netflix through your TV I assume the region issues are more complicated to get around.

No, you just need SmartDNS either set on your TV DNS or your router.

The clampdown might come but I doubt it.

Hola is a recognisable Chrome extension, so wont be a problem with that side of things.

TV content providers are more than aware of the use of VPN's and I would imagine that they just live with it, as it probably only represents a small percentage of users.

If you invest less than 50 chufs in a Chromecast, you can do away with cables, too, thus eliminating the need to have computer close to TV, or long trailing cables.

Thanks for the info and we have one of those 'smart' tvs. We had a nano hooked up to it until we got direct tv. I'll show this page to spouse for his final approval. Cheers. Thanks again.

Mr.Maquiavelo has slipped a little
Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

This is how to get the real thing up and running in no time for about 15 per month. I also have done the same and enjoy Amazon FireTV prime (though can not rent but I enjoy the large movie and TV prime selection). I prefer the HD quality that comes from Netflix via Amazon FireTV than Apple TV.

Recipe to watch telenovelas (and a lot more) for about 20 bucks per Month

Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

So Netflix went global (except China and US-sanctioning countries).

With it, it is said that the whole content went also global. Can someone confirm if US content is available and if we can at last enjoy non-dubbed films?

Because if so I'm reactivating my sub!

naaah, no change in the Swiss version. What they mean by "global content" is simply the Netflix produced shows. They're available without any delay globally (as they have been all along in the previously supported countries). For the rest they still have to negotiate the rights on a per-country basis.

Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

There seems to be something wrong with the global availability even of their original content, because Netflix launched today in Poland and apparently House of Cards is missing there.

The problem with House of Cards is that Netflix sold the rights to other TV stations before they knew they'd enter the European market. Same goes for the X-Files. HoC is available in Switzerland, but they can't release the latest season immediately.

The Problem is that Netflix and Co still haven't entered the 21st century...

For me it's simple: I want to pay for a "all you can eat" subscription that has all the shows I like. I'm really prepared to put some money on the table for that.
But so far nobody is even bothering to offer me that.

So it's Transmission + Sickrage + Plex for me for the foreseable future.

Krist

Just subscribe to a smartdns such as Overplay and you can flip between all the different versions. I appreciate it means that the search isn't all in one place, but at least you can access anything that is just showing in the UK, US, Australia, Switzerland, etc.
