I suspect Cablecom is running out of bandwidth at busy times.

I don't think it's a Cablecom problem. I still get good test speeds while running Netflix. It's looks more like Netflix's problem...

Video-streaming giant Netflix says it is going to stop subscribers from using proxies to view content not available in their home countries.

Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

Hi,

definitely looks like they have started making some changes. I had a problem earlier but the company I use for smartdns were very fast in responding and so it is working again. I think this is going to be a real game of cat and mouse. The sad thing is if they succeed then others will follow and that will make a lot of people into pirates which seems very counter productive.

Have fun

Martin

In case you haven't seen it yet - there's now this awesome app which gives you access to the whole Netflix catalogue worldwide:

https://www.smartflix.io

I'm using it right now and it works flawlessly. It's free for the time being (still considered to be beta) and available for both Mac and Win (unfortunately no Apple TV/iOS/Android at the moment).
Too bad, its really something I'd be interested in using on My iOS device with Chromecast compatibility...

This isn't the first situation like that:

Fortunately, Netflix isn't to be messed with. They'll get their way eventually.

Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

I'm on Cablecom and recently Netflix works like crap, so I just did a quick test. First I played a show on my computer using Cablecom connection - 5 minutes of watching and no sign of HD. Afterwards I connected my computer to Salt network using my phone as hotspot - HD appeared within seconds. In my view - something is clearly wrong on Cablecom's side.
Now I'm thinking about ditching Cablecom and switching entirely to 4G internet. The only downside is that speedtest.net is showing almost 80 Mbps for Cablecom and only 13 for 4 G. But then, what's the point of having 80 Mbps if it can't stream HD video...

If they are not low on bandwidth
They are throttling bandwith
Does cablecom have a competing offering?

For a server porn fix, these are Netflix caching servers that the fiber7 article mentions:

Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

Pleased to report that Netflix over UPC has been running well for the last couple of weeks. Binged 'Breaking Bad' at odd times, day and night never dropped from 4K...

Re: Netflix Switzerland starting September 18

Hi,

looks like they are getting serious about preventing people accessing the US Netflix. It looks like they are using the removal of paypal payments as a lever to significantly reduce the number of companies offering vpn/smartdns. A lot of vpn services are now blocked.

Do you still have access ?

have fun
Martin

Likewise with Unlocator, though they had to do an update to make it work again.
