I read that once you upgrade this way, you can then download an iso would would allow a new/clean install.

Doing the upgrade now from the USB as suggested by someone earlier
Laptop less than 1 year old pretty mush trashed in terms of the operating system.

Windows 10 is seen on startup but start button does nothing, fan spins very fast, wait cursor most of the time and only some programs will start. I can start Explorer after waiting several minutes by pressing Windows E but using it is almost impossible.

Not impressed to say the least.

Sounds like a hardware fault. Hopefully still under warranty.

No it doesn't. It sounds like an operating system upgrade which has failed and has absolutely nothing to do with any warranty.

I just found this article users should be aware that it by default shares an encrypted copy of your WIFI password with contacts in Skypue, outlook etc.

Facebook friends can also be included !!!!!!

It a feature called Wi-Fi Sense.
I have wifi sense on my Windows phone. If it works in the same way, it shares selected wifi network with contacts (only) on Outlook, Skype and FB - each can be deselected individually, or the whole function can be turned off.

My (untried) understanding is that any contact in any of the above lists, can use your wifi connection (I imagine similar to a hotspot) provided they too have wifi sense installed ..... But are unable to see shared passwords.

Hi,

if you want to download Windows 10 and install it from a DVD or USB stick here is the download link

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

Have fun

Martin
I think that The Simpsons should do a show about Windows 20 with Bill as a cyborg. I thought the show with Monty as a cyborg was cool. Bill. Too big to fail now. I have heard some fascinating comments about Bill in psychology books and videos.

Re: Windows 10

Installed Wed night, played around with it last night finally.

I like the build. Performance is decent, even on an older Lenovo T400. I never used 8, so it feels pretty much like 7 with redesign.

I had doubts about Cortana, but I find it pretty neat! The extra desktop(s) is useful too.

Re: Windows 10

I tried to update Windows 7 last night.

All appeared to be going well, then later on it stopped with an error message "Something happened". Beneath this was some more explanatory text, in a smaller font, exclaiming that "Something happened".

Two buttons were presented for my usage at the bottom, where I could go back or cancel the process of making something happen.

Well, well.

So, in my case, something happened. What happened exactly, I don't know. But something did.

What I do know, is that the something that happened was not the completion of the installation process.

Re: Windows 10

Installed Win10 in one PC and a Surface Pro 3. Works great.
In PC seems a bit faster than Win8.1..
Anyway, can't use Google Chrome on touchscreen...

Re: Windows 10

I had to give up in the end as 2 or 3 attempts at the upgrade failed with a non working Start button. 3 attempts at a custom clean install also failed. I believe it's a problem with the graphics driver from what I can find online. I could login with safe mode but couldn't make it install a good driver that would prevent the fan from spinning up and a blue error screen.

Went back to a previous Win 8.1 backup and will wait for Sony to bring out working drivers. Sony strongly recommend you do not install Windows 10 at this time on their machines.

On one attempt I managed to get about 30 minutes of use in Windows 10 before the machine fell over. Better than Win 8.1 but many things are a step backwards. I like my little colored status icons, so why make them non colored and bigger? Why are Microsoft going back in time to Space Invader flat 2D graphics?

It's a SVE14A3V2ES

The problem seemed to be the AMD graphics chip. With Windows 8, two display adapters are listed, AMD and Intel. I assume one is just on board. Windows 10 gave both of these Microsoft drivers but in Device Manager, one was shown as not working. A rescan downloaded a new driver but then the PC would go spin up, crash and give some internal power error. Sometimes it would do this before updating the driver, on the first boot into Windows 10.

I tried to install the Sony Windows 8.1 graphics driver but it didn't allow me.

For now I'm back to Windows 8.1 until I see Sony come up with some further info.

I presume you have installed 64Bit version. Was it a clean install? Have you installed ALL the drivers available here? Go to AMD site and download the newest catalyst (Mobility Radeon) for windows 10. Install and report back

I wasted a whole day of my life on this, trying both updates and clean installs. Rarely would the laptop last long enough to even attempt to load a driver.
I'm not the only one either:

Until I hear more about this problem being resolved, I won't be reporting back to anyone.

If you have problems with Linux on a Mac then perhaps start your own thread. You seriously waited 1 year to post that??

Do you have AMD APU in your laptop?

And yes, you wait
