Re: Windows 10

Finally managed to update the lappy. Seems to be running fine, but I don't use it for any processor- or graphics-heavy applications anyway.

Re: Windows 10

Well that didn't go very well

Created the install media onto a USB stick and then rebooted my PC so it would boot off the USB with the intention of doing a clean install (over Win 8.1).

Started off pleasantly enough with the setup manager, "yes please format C" (Point of no return). Then the installation starts and part way through it throws up an installation error message telling me its failed and and kindly offers to roll me back to.......

Couldn't find my Win 8 installation media so had to resort to my ancient Dell Windows 7 disks, I re-installed it and started over. I make sure Win 7 has fully updated itself with all security and patches and then ran the set-up again (this time on the Windows desktop), agreeing for it to download all updates. It begins the installation and then part way through I get another error and a failure to set up. Pages and pages about this on forums and helpdesks, and detailed instructions on which files to delete, registry entries to hack etc... which I will have to try tonight as it was 3am before I finally gave up and went to bed bleary eyed and beaten.

I really wish I hadn't bothered now, I've managed to go from Windows 8.1 to 7

Do you know how I can re-create the install media given that the Window of opportunity existed on my previous Windows 8.1 build which is now long gone. On Windows 7 I am not getting the Windows 10 installer App showing?

If its all the same, I guess I could download and burn a Windows 10 ISO off the usual torrent sites???

Re: Windows 10

Hi,

Microsoft have done away with the recovery partition...which simply took up space. It was always the first thing I deleted. You can download the iso for Windows 7,8 and 10 directly from Microsoft. No idea why on earth you would think of using a torrent site.

For Windows 10 this is the link you require https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

It can be used to create a bootable usb stick or dvd.

Have fun

Re: Windows 10

Hi,

what the link is download a tool that can be used to download Windows 10. It is the Windows Media Creation kit and will ask you if you wish to update the computer you are using or whether you wish to create a DVD/USB to update/install on another computer.

You just need a Windows PC to download the tool and to download Windows 10.

Have fun
Martin

It looks like its on the upgrade list, so I should be good to go.

P.S I'd actually forgotten how nice, clean and quick Win 7 was compared to 8

Re: Windows 10

Anybody who's using Win 10 and concerned about privacy (which you bloody well should be) could really do with reading this article and acting upon it.

Pretty much everything that can compromise your privacy is turned on by default.

Hi,

in terms of stopping targeted advertising you should also go here:

I remember having to do the same for Google.

News to me. Haven't used a DVD in years except to archive them to iso. One of my laptops doesn't even have a DVD drive.

Re: Windows 10

Have upgraded to windows 10 and feeling pathetic!!

The cursor is moving as if there has been some rockets installed behind it...basically if I point the cursor say on chrome, it moves to some other area on the screen before I try to click!

Googled it but could not find any solution...and even if I found, I would not be able to do anything as cursor is not pointing to where I wish to !!

Anyone has such experience and if yes, any solution?

The other option is to roll back but I am not sure how can I do that as well !

Would be highly obliged!

Re: Windows 10

I upgraded from Windows 7 to windows 10 as part of the routine automatic Windows Updates. Everything went smoothly apart from a minor glitch with my Avast Anti-Virus software. That was quickly resolved once it knew I had upgraded.

I heard that some people experienced problems with the first upgrade to Windows 10 after the initial installation. Apparently it was stuck in a cycle of saying it was installing the upgrade. Mine has also upgraded since the installation without any problems.

Perhaps there was a slight difference between those who chose to upgrade initially and those who waited for the upgrade from Microsoft
