Shame it's not a 55" or 60", I would be well interested then...

Re: Samsung 50" 4K TV, 777.00 in Migros

The Samsung UE-50HU6900 (this model) is decent for the money. The 55" version was reviewed here http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/ue55h...1405233782.htm

Verdict was:

Quote:
The Samsung UE55HU6900 is a case of you get what you pay for. Yes it’s 4K, but only when the picture on screen is mostly still. Once the camera starts panning, resolution drops away quite noticeably, and unfortunately there’s no motion-enhancing technology available on the set to reduce blurring.

The television is not without its virtues: contrast performance was good by LED LCD standards; input lag was low for an Ultra HD TV; plus greyscale, gamma and colour accuracy were top-notch after calibration. But we’re not entirely convinced the 55in HU6900 is the best choice on which to spend £1500, especially considering its lack of native 24p playback and Netflix 4K streaming. Buy it only if you’re going to view 4K photos most of the time.
So basically not so good for movies with the lack of 24p option... and lack of Netflix 4k would also be a bummer.

However for that price it seems pretty stonking value.

Re: Samsung 50" 4K TV, 777.00 in Migros

Timely thread for me.
I want to buy a new TV. Only thing I know is that it has to be 140cm min , not bothered about 3D.
So you experts what should I get? What is important? Just general viewing of films , docs , Sky news etc.
thanks very much for any input. Richdog you seem to know what you're about.

Re: Samsung 50" 4K TV, 777.00 in Migros

I saw this in the store today, was in Oerlikon so popped into Migros electornics. The 4k demo video is certainly stunning, anyone who says that true 4k makes no difference in a 50" TV is talking out of their rear... the detail is still staggering and noticeably different to 1080p. You can literally make out tiny details in a scene that in 1080p would be a blur.

Add to that is has the Samsung Smart Apps for all UK television (with a minor modification which is easily do-able via software) and it seems a bit of a no-brainer for that price. Also physically it is very svelte and discreet.

I also noticed the viewing angles were very good, and the panel they use is certainly a step above my 50" 6800, which suffers from colour washout when you move your head off angle form the centre of the screen.

The only negatives seem to be motion control when things are moving fast on screen (I didn't notice it on the demo picture, but then it was likely moving way too slowly), and lack of 24p, which can affect that traditional cinematic movie look.

However, 777chf... it's a great deal and better than my TV which was also a bargain a year or so ago at 899chf. Really not a bad set, and reviews are at worst above average.

That's a pretty good deal taking into account that TV is around £900 in the UK.

Is the deal just specific to that Migros store?

Re: Samsung 50" 4K TV, 777.00 in Migros

Im looking forward to upgrading to 4K when 60 inch sets become affordable and 4K is supported by mac OS. Viewing a photograph on a 4K is another world compared to full HD. If you've only seen your picture collection on a HD TV - you haven't really seen them.

Try looking at a closeup of a face on an retina iPad versus your full HD tv and you will see what i mean in terms of detail.

Probably not - but will be subject to availability, if buyers also believe this to be a good deal.

The carton is standard Samsung, with just an MBudget outer sleeve over the top ...... unlikely that Migros went to the trouble of producing an outer sleeve, if it wasn't across all/most of their stores.

You can even order it on the migroselectric.ch website.

In fairness, they maybe don't have access - cable or digital tuned in (don't want to run the risk of tuning in a 40yr. old b&W repeat) which is why they always have promo HD video.

The standard exposure time for 24P is 1/48 second & for 25P is 1/50 second, so unless the camera is on a tripod & there is no motion 4k of resolution just won't be there. It becomes very obvious when watching a feature film is being rendered frame by frame out at 4k that colour space & dynamic range are more important than resolution.

I am technical and I have no idea what you are talking about... speak in normal terms for those who don't work in the movie industry please.

Are you saying this TV is bad value?

Re: Samsung 50" 4K TV, 777.00 in Migros

Well I returned today intending to go with this 777chf special.
Actually something went a bit wrong and I came out with a curved Samsung and Harman Cardon sound stick plus plus and spent over 4000chf.
Good salesman plus dumb customer and kerpow!!
I even have a Bluetooth thing whatever that is.....
