But I have it enabled in UPC Cablecom dashboard, I wonder if they are able to tell if my router is broadcasting wirelessly or not

I don't understand how they can say you can't connect to your own Wi-free, how can they know its your own? no way can they know you are sitting in your living room with a laptop instead of your neighbour sitting in their house with a laptop and connecting. | | | | | Of course they can - if you give your username to authenticate and it comes via your modem, computer says no.

Hey,
I am new in Basel and I dont have Wifi at home . My landlord is paying for 2 Routers by UPC and he says I can use them . There is no way to use them, because the signal is way too low. I bought 2 repeater and I still cant access them. Ive called UPC Cablecom, they cant help me. Im living with about 15 families in the house. Another problem is, that I dont have physical access to the routers, as there is never anyone at home . I was able to meet someone from who the landlord said she would have a router but she didnt (weve searched the whole appartement). Im living here since the end of march and my landlord doesnt give a .... about that. Im even paying for it (he says its included in my rent) He says he is going to fix it but he doesnt. Even my neighbours have problems , so Im not the only one. Now ive given up and read about Wifree by UPC.
I know u cant trust people over the internet but as Im done with that and still want to have WiFi I wanted to ask u guys if anyone would be so kind and would give me their WiFree login. If not its okay but I guess its worth asking for it.
PM would be appreciated.
Have a great day. (Nice weather today )

No-one will give it to you as there's a limit to the number of devices which can be connected using it, and anyone cheeky enough to ask for someone else's personally identifiable details is dodgy enough to not only give the same details to someone else but use it to download all sorts of iffy things.
Plus your message doesn't really make sense (well, apart from the scroungy bit at the end :-) ).

15 families in the house ... do you mean there are 15 flats/apartments in the block? If so, get your own internet - check if there's a socket in your livingroom for example; it'll be the same as the one you plug your TV in to (if you have one).
Otherwise the idea that your landlord has just one cablecom point and two routers is a weird one, but your idea of using repeaters should have helped - assuming you put the repeater somewhere where it can get a good signal from one of the routers of course!

Its a house with 15 appartments, yea. The routers (statement from landlord) are in 2 of those. But I cannot access them, as I told you. I dont want to have my own, because I dont know how long ill live here because its very very expensive and I think UPC is only selling 2 year contracts.
The 2. router isnt accessable since begin of april and with the other one my repeater cant access it. I think its the low signal, but I dunno (Im experienced in using computer hard&software) why exactly.
My landlord has a business contract with UPC and I dont even know if he is not lying, so I cant tell.

Seems like you're being told to just grab the internet from one of the other flats. Assuming they're paying for it, they might have simply changed the SSID or password to stop that.
I believe Cablecom is cancellable immediately if you move. They answer phonecalls in English, French and German so it's worth giving them a call. If there's a socket in your room it could already be enabled - check this thread: Internet for FREE (for everyone, provider Cablecom)

It's very well possible that you do have an access already - just go to Cablecom, get the free (yes, it's no typo..) modem and get going.
There is a basic service with Cablecom, so once you receive their channels (and you are usually paying the basic offer already, as most landlords include it in the rent for the TV channels), you should have no problem hooking up the modem and get going with a 2Mbit connection - slow, but working - hopefully.
Check for a wall socket like the ones below: o | Quote: | | | | | Otherwise the idea that your landlord has just one cablecom point and two routers is a weird one | | | | |

Wi-Free?? It makes no difference to your speed. Try posting your results from speedtest.net with and without Wi-Free running.
By the way I got Wi-Free to work the other day...
